When the first pictures were released of characters looking up dramatically, we all asked what were they looking at... I said it looks like they heard something and are looking up at the source. I suggested a horn and assumed the one we saw in Dale in AUJ. But now I think Bombur blows this horn and the others look up toward the mountain?

Looking at the horn as being organic and huge, I was wondering what middle earth creature this horn be taken from. My best guess.. one of the horns of a Balrog. Skald

Welcome to TORn werewormses! To conserve server space and prevent gigantic images that go off the side of people's screens, we have some picture posting guidelines here (see below, and in the FAQ on the welcome board). So, I resized your impressive photo for you. Please follow the guidelines in the future. Thanks! *********** The specific guidelines for posting pictures within the message body of your post are as follows: the maximum size of any picture posted should be 525 wide x 400 pixels high (or a better measure is: 210,000 pixels squared - width x height), but no wider than 670 pixels. The maximum file size per picture should be 45k. The cumulative file size of all pictures in one post should not exceed 225k (5 pictures of the maximum filesize of 45k, 10 pictures of a filesize of 22.5k, etc.). These guidelnes apply to pictures hosted on other sites as well as to pictures posted as attachments to your post. For more detailed help on posting within a message body, check out Magpie's step-by-step TORn Image Posting Guide.

That's a very good image. (Somewhat replicating Helm's Deep scenario somewhere in the film?) I also like the picture of the ibex. Thanks for that, too, the other poster. I wonder how the person holding the beast managed to do so without it running away/kicking or knocking her over. Presumably it is not stuffed…

dwarves attacking from Erebor in full armour (no armours big enouch for Bombur) Or Dain arriving Seriously i think that Thorin and company attacking from Erebor is gonna be something MORE than in the book, perhaps Dain and his folk enter the mountain somehow and then all rampage into the battlefield at once
The flagon with the dragon has the brew that is true Survivor to the battle for the fifth trailer

I am not sure why PJ & co. feel the tie-ins are so important - IMO Rivendell, Gimli's axe, Legolas - that's plenty already. And while Mist & Shadows IS beautiful re the trailer, and haunting, at times I feel a tinge of unease. I would have liked to have heard the dwarves sing, one last time. And it be something new...

the repetition of themes and from LotR is becoming a little wearisome.... Very reminiscent of Gimli at Helm's Deep. But the incessant need for the overt AND copious visual links is something I don't get. A nod here and there is fine but the rate the team's throwing these out is such a really? moment. It's not as if the inherent themetics (which incidentally I was just nerding over here ) threading through the two tales aren't enough to scream there be two parts of the same EPIC.

Is an example of a repeated them. I sure hope an elf doesn't fire an arrow, a man doesn't blow horn, no-one rings a bell, or a Hobbit doesn't exclaim the "Eagles are coming".

Why did he include so many "tie ins" to TH when he wrote LOTR? Presumably, he felt that it was important to prompt comparing and contrasting between the two stories in the minds of his audience. Either that or we would have to put it down to a wearisome lack of imagination on his part (I tend to favour the former).

The dwarves are much higher in Erebor than the rest, who are busy battling below. Perhaps they spot orcs approaching and give a call of alarm? There are a lot of possibilities with this horn, it could simply be mirroring Gimli's Hornburg call in The Two Towers. It could be a funeral call or it could be mirroring Boromir's call for aid. Or perhaps, like the book, the elves are singing a song in the camps below and the dwarves bring out loud instruments to drown out the music with a Misty Mountains reprise. (probably not, but it would be very cool). I think we'll have to wait and see.
