Going back in time, alternate realities...worked out great for Superman, Star Trek and the X-men. So if Smaug flew counterclockwise really really fast around the Lonely Mountain and then got so dizzy that when he popped out in the past he accidentally fell on Azog... I think we have the beginnings of sequel script here.
And once again the world has not arranged itself just for me. Tsk, tsk.

"So I'm giving folks what they want (and sells). There's a new, and absolutely INTENSE interchange between Thranduil and Thorin (with an extended version planned for the EE) - and they end up becoming friends at the end and hugging and crying! (though filming that was a little difficult considering the height difference, so Thorin didn't look stupid). BTW, Thranduil has proved to be such a sensation that we've expanded his part, and are in licensing deals with various marketers for a line of skin care products - we're thinking the ad line will be "Forever Fabulous" - or maybe "Ageless Magic"? What about haircare?? Thranduil obviously has the handle on flyaway hair, make him yield the secret, dammit!

We get this? Treatment proposal for the part 1 of the Gem Wars Trilogy - Gem Wars: A New Dupe
Middle-earth is in turmoil and spies for the Dark Lord have stirred dragon lust for the treasures of Erebor, a heavily armed and fortified stronghold of Durin's Heirs with enough treasures to fuel Middle-earth economy for 12 ages. Thror, son of Dain, is King under the Mountain (ie Erebor). He is possessed by the loveliest jewel in his possession, lovingly named the Arkenstone, the King's jewel which bestows upon him the right to rule, as he has decreed. His legions of Dwarven craftsmen create the most beautiful jools coveted by the ladies, and some laddies, all over the lands. Among the clientele is that disagreeable pointy-eared fellow who lives in that imitation underground city down south in the outbacks. Thror doesn't like him: he is too tall, his hair is too perfect and to make matters worse, he's BLOND. But he's got a bunch of fascinating stones Thror wants to get close with, when he can tear himself away from his precious, the Arkenstone. How will Thror win at this game of keepaway he wants to play and win thoroughly (like Ender always does his games)?
Meantime, Thror's grandson, Thorin, being second in line, after his father Thrain (Thror's son for you uneducated lot), is a slackeroo who whiles his days away getting away from duty. Fortunately he is such a layabout he was not home when the granddaddy of dragons, Smaug (shortlisted after an exhaustive search by Sauron's agent) executed his hostile takeover and instituted the Age Of Desolation. Both Thror and Thrain goes MIA leaving Thorin as the grieving head of a decimated clan, and no way to expend his pent-up angst. Without the Arkenstone, the troops won't rally to his cause, but without the troops, he can't begin his destiny to start a noble quest, to reclaim a homeland, and slay the dragon along the way and reclaim the Arkenstone (damn Thror's right-to-rule decree). What will Thorin do?
Unbeknownst to all, while Thorin pouts and spouts, the Dark Lord's diabolical plan goes much beyond putting a stranglehold on the economy of Middle-earth. Thorin is at the centre of his plot, and he is herding the Dwarf toward an epic confrontation.

Just look at this shameful image of the "future king" *huh* partying away. Dwarves love their ale, it's true, but the future King Under the Mountain is supposed to be like, MAJESTIC. Not getting inebriated with the underbelly of Middle Earth.
Pssst - to continue the shame, Thor doesn't dislike the disagreeable pointy-haired neighbor in the forest because he's blonde. It's been kept a secret by the tight-lipped dwarves, but there's a REASON Fili and Kili look a tad elvish. Seems that Thorin's free-spirited sister Dis went walking in the woods one day, finding songs that go "gold, gold, gold" and dour conversations about the latest new gold seam to be a little dull. And she happened to meet a certain mysterious being with hair like the first rays of a pale winter sun, and animals would come at his call, and well, one thing led to another...tho no-one really knows the details. What happens in the Greenwood, stays in the Greenwood. In any case, Thror has been negative about elves ever since.

That's a lot to fit in an already overloaded amount of material (my opinion). Well, astute observation there by the way, not exactly. You see, each unilogy of the Trilogy will be a Quadrilogy in itself, so each part of the 3 parter will be able to stand alone on its own, and this ensures each and every story plot and subplot and subsubplot that Mr Urnot and his team can dream up gets its moment over the course of the 4 parter of each part of the larger 3 parter of the Gem Wars trilogy. The logic is perfect

It's all part of the initiation to the exalted position daddy holds now. Not much else for him to do while he waits to be king-in-waiting, while his daddy is waiting to be king.

Tho I was thinking more of all those ancient tales of folklore, at happening upon fairy lights, fairy rings, in the woods, and joining the dance and never being able to stop, or worse, ignoring the warning to never, never eat or drink while in those lands.
Of course the free-spirited Dis - and tough dwarf women were equal to men and pretty much did what they wanted - was just getting bored. It didn't help that as of the line of Durin, she was pretty well taller than all of the other dwarf princes from the seven kingdoms that had been trotted out for her inspection over the years, and to her eyes - which were as beautiful as her brothers - all these hairy dwarves pretty well looked alike, and SMELLED the same, like boiled wool and leather.
So Dis wandered farther and farther, restlessly on her sturdy mountain pony, and then she stopped to let the pony graze and sharpen her axe, and found something beautiful...SHHHH. But in the dwarf community folks chuckle over Fili's golden hair and blue eyes, and Kili's fine features. (Sir Jackson has given the nod to this little-known information, uncovered by deep research into unpublished papers, with Kili's interest in Tauriel, and Fili's more accepting stance towards elves a the end of movie 2.)
It was formally put out that Fili and Kili had a dwarf father killed on the battlefield "probably fighting next to Thorin". RA said that, but he hadn't had time to delve more into the research, and of course he would put a noble spin on things. But Fili and Kili's supposed dwarf daddy was pretty much a pub mate of Thorin's, had a noble bloodline but not much else. He WAS killed on the battlefield, but it was because he'd been partying with Thorin all that day and mistook a notoriously bad-tempered war boar (who was only kept for breeding, really) for a pony, and got on the animal backwards, yet. He was laid to rest with full dwarf military honors.
