     Lexicon [In reply to]

This all looks pretty good to me. Good work! You are the epitome of dedicated Thrall, and if Thranduil gave out special award or knighthoods, you should be first in line. Wink

My suggestions:
1. In the order of things, move FEAST up next to FEASTING for more immediate association.

2, Add 'Silm' for The Silmarillion? Or not part of the TA lexicon, more TORn as a whole? There has been a bit of Silm discussion of late.

Could you explain 1? FEAST is before FEASTING

For 2... yeah, imo, it's more a TORn thing. I reckon the book titles become common knowledge for TORn users, even if they didn't start off knowing them. LA/LAEM is
the exception: it's quite specific, and would probably be familiar to those who've read the books. But since we reference it a fair bit for Oropher and Thranduil's past, I felt it needed to be in the garden.Smile

Sorta related: Article about Tolkien's Dwarves [In reply to]

Came across this article and thought it interesting since we're just on the fateful chapter in the Silm read-along: "Dwarves are not heroes": antisemitism and the Dwarves in J.R.R. Tolkien's writing

I've not finished it though. Rather dense academic in nature.

Thranduil Thralls: The afflicted. Fangirls, and boys, whose allegiance are pledged to the Elvenking. Also known as the hopelessly enthralled to his ELVEN MAGNIFICENCE.      The professor did not have one racist bone in his body [In reply to]

IMHO fellow thralls, the professor did not have 1 racist bone in his body. His depiction of the dwarves was part of the tapestry of his wonderful narrative concerning Middle Earth - genius/art - and remember the bravery he assigned to all of them in Silm (at the Battle of Unnumbered Tears) and in the LOTR.

(copying this post - the professor's anger at his German publishers when they inquired whether he was "Aryan":

I regret that I am not clear as to what you intend by arisch. I am not of Aryan extraction: that is Indo-iranian (sic); as far as I am aware none of my ancestors spoke Hindustani, Persian, Gypsy, or any related dialects. But if I am to understand that you are enquiring whether I am of Jewish origin, I can only reply that I regret that I appear to have no ancestors of that gifted people. (Letters 37, emphasis original).)

Though I must say, much appreciate those articles from Marnie's site you've shared. Very helpful, insightful stuff, and it's really wonderful to find Tolkien scholarly stuff on the side of the Sindar princes.SmileHeart

Welcome! I'm very glad you appreciate the link Heart I found them to be very interesting as well. I even learned a great deal about Thranduil/Sindar in general by reading her blogs. Unfortunately I haven't found more blogs from her on this subject.

In Reply To

Yeah. I think it's really an interesting, if awkward, situation. The Silm does set up all the background. But really, we're given no details as to the actual relationship/interaction beyond what's in the UT. Maybe that's why when the fellowship went before C & G, he said to Legolas: ‘Welcome son of Thranduil! Too seldom do my kindred journey hither from the North.’

You're right! Although I'm curious to know why exactly that is. I know Oropher/Thranduil had no great love for Galadriel, but what kind of 'intrusions' did he mean? Is that further explained in UT/Silm or do we have to fill in the blanks ourselves?

In Reply To
Though I imagine from time to time, there might be little guys-week-out kind of thing Celeborn does and maybe he would meet Thranduil on the banks of the Anduin every other century for a camping trip to catch up for old times' sake.Smile

Since we're told the bow is the Silvan's preferred weapon, I think it's natural that Legolas is great with it, growing up among Silvans.

Didn't know the Silvan's weapon of choice was the bow. That would explain for Legolas excelling in it.
