Well, could it be your browser version then? The TORn FAQ did also list the minimum IE version on which the Advanced Editor would work.

I know it's just so wrong but I had to laugh real hard. I can understand you liking the art even more since you aren't very keen on the prospect of having that scene in BOFA honestly, I'm trying to keep an open mind about it, and hope for the best. I'm fairly confident it's just a coincidence though there's always that little niggle it may be some warped sense to need to cater (I really think it's pandering, rather unnecessarily too) to "regional" tastes or what-nots that seems to be getting prevalent these days. *shoves viewpoint back into dark* Right! Moving on,
But he doesn't look too bad in this one either Not at all! .

Hi! Long time lurker (hi, Lurker!), first time poster. Wasn't sure where to post this; I'm so used to reading this in flat mode. Anyway, I guess I'm one of your STVs. I completely agree with Mariel: I don't feel like I have anything worth adding, but I adore coming here and viewing the Glory that is Thranduil. :-) I've read the Silm recently (been wanting to pick it up again), so it's been great reading your discussion!

It's cool though, the excitement of Kerewyn's maiden read. Yes, and Eruvandi’s too! (as she noted) LOL, glad you are riding the coat tails of the excitement. I’ve even gone as far as to put this image of Maeglin, Turgon and Eol as the background on my phone. Whenever I look at my phone during the day, while at work or some mundane RL activity, it gives me a tiny thrill each time, reminding me of this wonderful undercurrent in my life, the discovery of this great work.
I’m probably looking too deeply into detail, but I’m intrigued by what appears to be warrior markings on Turgon’s face, which you can’t quite make out. Or maybe it's just an expression of extreme anger/annoyance Also, Ted Nasmith seems to have a bit of a hippy vibe going on; some of his Elves are depicted in sandals, like Turgon here. Seems the climate of Gondolin would not be conducive to open-toed footwear, but then, Elves are hardy folk.
I’m finding that the tumblr Silm Readalong blog is good for motivation, forcing me to keep up so I can enjoy the relevance of fan art being shared – but it’s not great for discussion (I can’t even figure out how to reply to someone who’s commented to me) What I crave is a long, slow discussion on the Silm! I wonder when the Reading Room will come around to it again? (maybe after LOTR that’s about to kick off) But at least now, I can see various RR discussions on Silm topics, which I’ll now be able to read without being in the dark. I’ll be quite inspired to read ‘The Children of Hurin’ next. (I haven’t even started to look up Maeglin or Celegorm & Curufin on deviant art yet! One lonesome night, I may go there…..) note: likes bassass elves. /OT

Hello YOUR MAGNIFICENCE! Finally, a full length shot of Thranduil in armour and wielding his swords! Loves how he's holding his main gauche in reverse grip. That's definitely his default stance right there
Look look! He is holding both of his swords!! Love that look of focus. Leggy is watching from a respectable distance, all the while thinking he is a very lucky Elf to have such a impressive father (and impressive he looks with that armour ) What happens here do you think? Is this where Thranduil reunites with Legolas?

Melian did foretell that one of great doom was going to pass through the Girdle regardless. So maybe there was an element of averting the fates after all. Point! And maybe Thingol just got all fatalistic and is like "well if this doom is gonna happen regardless, let's go all the way and see what we can get to our advantage.' ( OK, he probably wasn't thinking that... ) Also like your point on Beren being a mere man, for all that he could claim the esteem of Felagund. Yet he's so not cowed by Thingol pulling rank here. I like how a prophecy or promise can occur literally, but with a tweaking of expectations. Eg - the hand of Beren did hold a Simaril when next they met. Eg the Witch King's death being brought about by "no man."

There is so much in fact – it would be fascinating to interview the writing triad on their thought processes, on these subtle references I suppose some of what we see are just coincidences, but they can't all be cosmic confluences can they?
(The ending of the Beren & Luthien story is so poignant huh? “And none saw Beren or Luthien leave the world, or marked where their bodies lay.” ) It's a stretch probably, but their story, especially when they are apart, brings to mind the myth of star-crossed lovers in Chinese mythlogy/folklore, the cowherd and the weaving maid, they get to meet once a year, but I don't think they get put through the wringer quite as rigorously as B & L. Great observations on Silmarils and White Gems, Kerewyn! Can't wait to see how those Gems fit into the mythos, though if memory serve, somewhere it's been mentioned (not sure if it was a LP interview or someone else discussing them) those Gems had cultural signficance. Like you, I do not want them being shown to exert unhealthy influence - we already get enough of that from Thranduil's supposed treasure-lust and his "jerk" behaviour as concluded by some viewers. To go that route would, imo, be just trite. So, fingers crossed!

it seems to be Speak Out STV Week, which is fantastic! Welcome to you and all! I remember when I found the very first TA thread (it had only been going for a few pages) I dived straight in, because it was just what I had been looking for (trawling through the discussions to find anything and everything devoted to Thranduil.) I have very good memories of closely participating on TORn back around the release of ROTK and for a couple of years after, and I'd been missing those days. But I did feel I had nothing much to contribute beyond general squeeing - not being terribly academically minded, I felt so under-read and uneducated on Tolkien, compared with so many of the fine folk here, and I've shown myself up plenty of times with my comparative ignorance. But I guess after a while, I felt more confident in taking part. It's been a wonderful ride.

Gah, I love that picture! He's just so Pretty! I'll have to brush up a bit before I jump in. It's been a while. As for my name, I wanted to use something sufficiently Elvish, but I must say I'm not very creative. So the one I used is my former university and my favorite character from the musical CATS. I've used it forever, and it's served me well. :-)

Lurker, as you've said, I don't know how long the ride will last. Last time, it was a full two years, and I may have been online here nearly every day, then RL suddenly intervened (a new relationship put my head back on planet earth). For now, I hope to be captivated for a while yet - just enjoying it while it lasts because I remember that I felt slightly bereft when I knew my LOTR interest had waned (in the mid-late 2010s) - it felt like something was missing, and I didn't seem to have any other fandoms at the same time. I wanted to be beckoned back, but it was going to require an intense character interest to haul me in (just as Loki also hauled me into the Marvel world in general). Given that this is thralldom we're talking about, I expect it may take some other sort of enchantment to release me from my bond to the Elven King. I'm in no hurry....
With all due respect, as someone who works with very specific applications and related projects/user support, I am intrigued by attitudes about learning to use something properly, due to work, as opposed to the self-motivation to do so for leisure Without meaning to lead you into this OT matter, I am a conundrum to myself on this! I seem to get tech-related anxiety, so I sort of resist learning something new for leisure, even when it's going to make my use easier. Hence, I still haven't downloaded Firefox, yet I still gripe away about my browser not supporting the image icons for easier posting. Yet at work, I am pretty up to date with applications because I don't want to be left behind or be draining on anyone else. This seems to point out to me the clear rift between my RL work self, and my far more private online thralldom. We are almost two completely different people. It would be fascinating to do (or read) a thesis on fandom and public/private selves, and how it affects one's life. For instance, it's early Saturday afternoon and I've simply been reading TORN since I got up - meanwhile there's housework to do, groceries to buy, and my running shoes are staring me down. But is this procrastination, or the worthiest of pastimes? (slow time for reflection is so hard to find these days) I'm going off on a huge tangent here, and I think I'd better go for my run while it's still sunny PS - thanks for that link about Weaver Girl and Cow Herd. had to ask just to be sure though

Thrall Wars!: What business do Elves, Dwarves or Men(?) have with drooling thralls, yea, with smartphones in tow, unto the slopes of Erebor? ... oh, yes, the Hobbit's lingering in some shadows, ever ready to swoop to the hairy rescue. Take cover if you dare!. Without meaning to lead you into this OT matter, I am a conundrum to myself on this! So I guess even when contorting ourselves over stuff that's probably easy fixes, we're still enjoying the process? I mean, I still fall back to powerpoint for quickie image stuff, because it's fast and I know my way around it already... even though I know I'm not doing myself any long-term favours
Given that this is thralldom we're talking about, I expect it may take some other sort of enchantment to release me from my bond to the Elven King. I'm in no hurry.... heehee... same here! I suspect my time's gonna have an expiry sooner than later, just with the way things are. I just hope it'll last til after BotFA.
It would be fascinating to do (or read) a thesis on fandom and public/private selves, and how it affects one's life. For instance, it's Saturday morning and I've simply been reading TORN since I got up - meanwhile there's housework to do, groceries to buy, and my running shoes are staring me down. But is this procrastination, or the worthiest of pastimes? (slow time for reflection is so hard to find these days) I'm going off on a huge tangent here, and I think I'd better go for my run while it's still sunny LoL... don't i know what you mean I should get offline soon and get stuff done, though not a run in the sun, unless I fancy a heatstroke. Before I do, how about a bit of a primer in anticipation of your venture into the world of anime? Look up otaku and fujoshi
