Well, maybe it's too early too fret, and it's impossible to believe that some key lines and actions done by Thranduil would not appear. And from the sound of it - SQUEEEHeart - Thranduil is in the trailer. Also - PJ & co. are still tinkering - trailer or no, artwork or no, there never seems to be ANY guarantee re the final film....
IMO folks should just be chatting up Thranduil, coz you're not going to tell me WB at least doesn't listen to the buzz online = $$$. Drop the 'zine a line saying how much we like the Thranduil image, etc. Even Thorin's FB posted the Thranduil image!HeartHeartHeart And Lee Pace's recent successes aren't going to hurt either - last night's "Halt and Catch Fire" was another great episode, and GOTG is getting lots of positive comments.
Agree, agree, agree. I am counting on the fact that PJ keeps editing to the very last minute. (Hasn't he been known to still be working on the final cut up mere hours before it's required in the premiere cinema?) Seriously, those fans in Hall H should have screamed the roof off, when Colbert first says Lee's name - and really let PJ take note first hand.
Different film, different franchise, but look what happened last year when they dropped Tom Hiddleston onto Hall H. The producing team had an epiphany, and with mere months to release, more Loki scenes were quickly included in 'Thor: the Dark World' as the extent of his fan base struck home. So I keep thinking, if that can happen, maybe this can happen. I hope PJ is as flexible and insightful.
Regretfully, LP barely got to make his mark on that panel. But a little of him goes a long way, much like the TE cut of DoS ...

Glad to have you back propping up the appreciation! I might be flitting in and out for the next workdays as you know, and counting down my time to my own true freedom
Though teaser tomorrow! For us anyway. I hope I can see it before having to leave for work.
Re LP at the panel. I thought it was a good rousing cheer when Colbert asked him about being in NZ. And really, that girl who specified him along with BC and AS to answer her question was great! BC seem to be plonked front and centre, and we all know AS's on a pedestal. It's a stretch but hopefully LP being named along with them gets someone taking the right note.

Checking out that fighting style and beautiful armour. 
I have just watched it four times over breakfast, and don't know how I'm going to be able to concentrate this busy work day. (though I do look forward to watching it again on large work monitor) On my first viewing, I gasped out loud at that shot of all the Elf arrows poised ready for Thranduil's command.
LOVE the re-use and LOTR tie-in of Billy Boyd's gorgeous vocals.

And not only do we see flashes of his beautiful swords, that partial-sheath is there too in the walking scene!
Oh, anyone noted the interesting reverse handgrip Thranduil does on his left-hand sword when we got the quick flash of his left-hand when he was cutting orcs down? It's not a fluke since it's the same grip in the earlier scene. I guess more learned folks would say it's not a practical or feasible grip for combat, but I think for a good all-round defense-offense in a one-against-horde situation that grip complements the conventional grip on his right-hand sword. Plus this is an ELF with both the reputation and the cred of a swordsman! I think employing the different grips for his twin-sword fighting style make perfect sense. Of course it helps that he works it like the best pros!
One other detail: Those trailing bits from his armour we see in that first backview doesn't seem to serve any function except flap around don't they? But I'm wondering if the slightly dragonny motif on the shape and the fabric might be a sort of resonance re his desire for treasure and just his deadly reputation and isolation aka let sleeping dragons lie?

I made a separate thread on the main Hobbit board too, but I thought I would bring it here as well. I made a full set of screencaps from the teaser trailer this morning and put them together in an album on Photobucket. This is relevant to Thranduil because I made sure to pay extra attention to getting good shots of the short scenes he was in, and in the part where we see him fighting I think I caught him in every single fighting pose that was shown!
I also took special care, with Avandel in mind, to make sure that you could see Thorin clearly in all of the scenes that he was in as well as getting some good shots of Leggy and Tauriel for myself.

misunderstood what the Elfs were to kill, and now I can't find it. I'm sure that there are no Elves in BO5A who will be killing a white stag, orcs, that's more plausible. And I have never been able to Link on this library computer. I spent an hour one day trying to link the Astrological Picture of the Day into my signature line, it just did not work out.
Still going over UT with a fine-tooth comb. Have not found any new info yet on Oropher or Thranduil. A heck of a lot of ancient Dwarf history though in the chapter Celeborn and Galadrial, interesting and surprising. I am going to read the whole book again if I have to, and post Oropher and Thranduil historical stuff as I find it.
The trailer is so neat! Any idea where he is? He seems to be all alone as he battles the orcs. It is intriging, why is he not with Legolas, Tauriel and his army? Oh, so many questions ........ only 4 1/2 months to go, geez!

Curious: was LP's visibility at SDCC anything like what the Dwarves got in 2012?
I think it was - just impressions - but possibly more so re GOG and Halt and Catch Fire. I think it's a different dynamic when you have a group of guys representing cute little fuzzballs, vs.
a single actor and there's this huge buzz about GOG as that is something new and fresh.
Another thing - someone even titled a post re MF, IM, and RA being noticeably absent w. PJ - of course we all know why, and that's fine - plus, there was only one dwarf there at all!
So altogether it was already a full panel, and yet I think there was something missing with these key characters being gone, and then these folks from LOTR being there. Just felt
a little "off" to me, not like a cohesive group.
And honestly, it's nothing personal against Elijah Wood, but his appearances re the Hobbit I think are too much, starting back with
AUJ. He seems to show up a lot, and it's not nice but I keep wondering don't you have other work, or something? And no, while his skin is amazing, he's filled out since the Hobbit.
He does NOT look like the Frodo I knew, he's grown up. I liked the cameo but think it should have ended there....
Happily tho LP was out and about at SDCC and new interviews - because I remember when we were BEGGING for some LP articles! And since LP mentioned "Halt and Catch Fire"
but he doesn't know if there will be season 2 - all I can say is there had better be! The last two shows have been amazing, and LP is amazing in this show!

..is how the location Thranduil is cautiously walking through, looking at the carnage, is the same location as the recent new screen shot with his back to us and Gandalf and his group of elves. You can tell by the stone deer statue in the background of both. And to look at these side by side, it gives me the tragic impression that that same group of elves could now be the ones lying dead and bleeding.
And I wonder here, is her seeking Legolas? Is he remembering his father? Is he deeply regretting the losses to his kin, and that he ever brought them out of the forest, and for what gain, none? It must be such a deep and painful thing to see your fellow immortals die – or are they also to be envied? We never got to see Haldir deal with his battle loss, because he was lost himself.

Oh wow, you are right. Thanks to Eruvandi’s beautifully captured screen shots, (Thank YOU Eruvandi!) on her third page, I can see the shot with that reverse grip. That’s a hold that I imagine would be better suited to a stabbing downward / chopping motion – like you might hold a dagger for a fatal stab. He must be – and of course he is – marvelously ambidextrous and with such strong flexible wrists to wield it that way in full fight.
My comparison I did in my earlier post with Jadis – she is holding both the swords the same way, and performing almost mirror-image movements, or swipes that reflect each other. Imagine having the supreme fighting ability to wield two swords in different ways, as needed. Game changer indeed. You know, I have never been terribly interested in someone’s fighting prowess until I saw the beheading of the orc Narzug. Another moment of game-change – for me.

Well, I like his solo/small group ventures better anyway, not that I don't have love for the cast and crew. Interviewers tend to forget him when there's an ensemble. Doesn't help that he seems to like to blend in, make himself small and just smile quietly.

Like I said elsewhere, he should have put on his knuckle-dusters, and mark Dwarven attendance and take names

I wager he's taken back to the days of the Last Alliance, maybe even the field where Oropher fell  And this would be after he has cleaned his way through the orcs in the later scene. He looks so beautiful and so powerful, but so alone in this scene. Just chills watching it.
My comparison I did in my earlier post with Jadis – she is holding both the swords the same way, and performing almost mirror-image movements, or swipes that reflect each other. Imagine having the supreme fighting ability to wield two swords in different ways, as needed. Game changer indeed. You know, I have never been terribly interested in someone’s fighting prowess until I saw the beheading of the orc Narzug. Another moment of game-change – for me. The mirror movement thingy is the typical twin-sword fighting style I believe. Again, I'm no expert but I reckon I've watched enough kungfu stuff growing up to earn some armchair critic cred. It dawned on me that twin-sword fighting is quite a limiting style (mirror moves leave a lot of potential openings for attackers too and is just limiting in the wielder's reach) and probably more stylised and suited for one-to-one action or in a tournament kind of thing. Plus, that mirror-style can look a bit too oriental (and for some strange reason it tends to be heroines who do twin-swords, twin-something else is more common for the guys), which would have been odd on HIS MAGNIFICENCE. So I am chuffed to see him in action and looking like nothing from kungfu movies or conventional fight styles That reverse grip is the sword-grip equivalent of the sideway pistol hold that gets flaked for being unrealistic and for show only. It does require a lot more power and control to wield this grip well (I got a bit of a primer on it when I visited a forum discussing the villians, incidentally silver-haired bishies, in the animation movie Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, a long way back...) and if it was the grip on a single sword, or the main one in a twin-sword style, I'd say meh (logically only and just momentarily of course because there is no meh where our ELF is concerned) but as the secondary sword, I do believe it works, and effectively and realistically complements the conventional main-sword grip. Plus it removes the element of anticipatory offence by his attackers if they can't take advantage of the repetitive conventional style. And as you say, the flexibility of the different gripes is ability supremo, not to mention cool and absolute badass. No one can touch him

Am loving the details: that buckle and belty thing attached to the sheath looks cool. Wonder how it attaches to his tunic. Which continues the motif of his gold robe and that inner robe under the red coat in the orc interrogation. Thranduil's strutting consistency in his style
The conventional sword-fighter would usually be holding a shield in left hand. Thranduil raises the bar on that - his defence arm is also an attacking arm. It's either one opponent has to look out for two attacking swords (deadly!) or two opponents have to look out for this one attacker (even more deadly) - and each sword with a 'mind of its own'. *deeply impressed* Great point about the defence arm! Cool idea. You have the makings of a armchair fignting prowess critic
