A single-book theme (like all-Sil, all-Hobbit, all-LOTR)?3. Character theme (On the third day of Christmas, Mithrandir gave to me 3 Palantiri, 2 Goblins quaffing, and a . . .)?4.?5. Free for all!?6. Limitless individual attempts?

Though actually I haven't got a "12 Days": I got rather distracted by listening to a recording of Tolkien's US lecture tour. He re-did one of his seminal talks on Christmas Eve at Carnegie Hall... and of course that gave us On Fairy Tales, In New York
Sounds like there was quite an after party: the boys of the NYOD choir were still singing Belfalas Bay when the bells were ringing out for Christmas Day.

I keep forgetting that Tolkien visited the States back in the day. Where is that recording available?
Meanwhile, I've got a pile of gifted books that will keep me busy for a while, including one lovely thick volume of new Letters. Ever notice how you can "hear" Tolkien's voice when reading those?

Also, once your status levels-up, all your previous posts carry your new status too - even the very first one you made on these boards - so you can't even trawl through old posts to ID the change.
I mean, if you feel like going back and *counting* all your posts manually on the 'Show user's posts' page, you could pin down when you went up a level, but I'd be impressed if anyone cared enough to put in that amount of effort. (FWIW, you became half-elven on your 5,000th post. You've made 6,529 posts so far so you could count back 1,529 posts from your most recent one...)

Even 'back in the day' as you say, you'd have thought that Tolkien on the pogium at the Carnegie doing "Fairy Tales" would have been better documented. And he was in panel discussion with Drs. Shane MacGovannen and Kirsty McTroll -- both surely figures of some repute on the Tolkien circuit, even then.
So I did wonder whether the whole thing was a Chirstmas prank. But my mate Elvis (from down the chip shop) does have a recording, and says he ha now explained it all on his website

This time of the year, reading about The Grinch, I'm reminded of a peculiar letter exchange between Tolkien and Dr. Seuss, but alas my search for it has been in vain; it appears squire may have the only remaining link to it, if it still exists...
