It's great that they look so in character even when the cameras not rolling. Nice to see the detail of Thranduil's cloak, and the armour waiting to be worn!

Well, since I did a quick translate of the words in the third pic... here ya go: The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies Peter Jackson & Luke Evans, & Ian McKellan Coffee, swords and beards - this is a dream-making moment; the hero is scruffed up; the wizard is exhausted - this is the face of war. The defining chapter of the dream of Middle-earth is nearing its end, and yet feels like it will perpetuate: The robes of Gandalf are still as grey, he is still as wrinkling, no more and no less so. What's the difference between the Kong of Men, Aragorn, and Bard, the Dragon slayer? Even the beer gut of Peter Jackson is as impressive as before. What a deja vu moment. Jackson's ambitious attempt to create a ending of such grandeur as befitting an epic historical poem, in service of a mere children's bedtime story, another another legendary Middle-earth story's ending. (Details on P12) Premiere: 17 Dec 2014.
Fan of both books and movies; I am a lurker by nature though it seems I have severely misnamed myself... for the moment.
Appreciating Thranduil, thread by thread: I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, XI, XII (Tis true: more appreciation threads for Thranduil exist than ME movies)
Thrall Wars!: What business do Elves, Dwarves or Men(?) have with drooling thralls, yea, with smartphones in tow, unto the slopes of Erebor? ... oh, yes, the Hobbit's lingering in some shadows, ever ready to swoop to the hairy rescue. Take cover if you dare!. (A writing triangle with Avandel and Kerewyn) Teh partsies: Prologue (aka the 'tater-mash of whatever came before), two, three, three-appendix: An Unexpected Flashback, four, five (new, posted 20 August) "BoFA"= The Battle || "BotFA"/"tBotFA" = The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies =======

Thanks everyone. Really like seeing all of these characters in the same scenes. One of the most exciting things about this movie is that you get to see all these different characters come together and interact before and during the Battle of Five Armies. And Lee Pace is just as tall as me then (6' 5''). Interesting to see my own height in relation to the other actors.

I'm only five feet tall PJ would actually be tall enough that I'd have to look up to look him in the eye! Kind of puts things in perspective, seeing him next to LP! Height to me doesn't matter with guys (in fact, I tend to shy away from guys THAT tall simply because I'd hear their stomach rumbling every time I hugged them! And talk to their belly buttons- I'd feel like a toddler! Not to mention get a sore neck just looking up at them all the time And I'd finally have an appreciation for how Bilbo must have felt next to Beorn! My husband is just perfectly sized to me- he's about 6 feet tall, and when I hug him I hear his heartbeat in my ear And I can kiss him without needing a stepladder too As long as I'm on my toes and he leans down anyway

It might just be shadows, but there seems to be a dark streak through Bilbo's hair that runs down along his jaw. Blood from being hit on the head, a scalp wound?

…for the film Elves in general. I am, however, rather partial to Tokien's Elves, particularly Glorfindel. As I imagine him in my mind's eye, he is very similar to Thranduil, who is the only film elf who resembles what I see as an Elf. The others are too heavy and human looking, and not ethereal enough, to make them believable to me. Many are also not very attractive (they just look like rather gormless tall wimps), and I had always imagined Elves as perfect beings. In my view the only film Elf who can be excused for not looking like an Elf is Elrond, because he is Half-Elven – he works well as far as I'm concerned. A rather promising-looking male 'Elf'' did appear towards the end of RotK, but since he didn't open his mouth it is difficult to know what he could have turned out like.
I won't deny that I'm a bit surprised you have a thing for elves considering how vocal you've been on here about the elves in DOS Or is it just Thranduil?
