Trust me, you don't want it stickied [In reply to] Can't Post

Looking at the sticky posts at the top of the board, you'll see that you can't see any of the replies until you open the thread. It's a conversation killer. Plus, they become invisible to people after a while, so they'll end up starting threads on the reviews anyway, sticky or not. Crazy It's much better for generating discussion for people to be able to see the conversation that's already going on. Smile

What some people who start a new thread have done is link to the older threads which can be helpful.

Sticky? [In reply to] Can't Post

entmaiden answered the question back in one of the unnumbered threads.

Quote
The problem with a sticky is that it's hard to see if new posts were made to the thread. After a while, people no longer see the sticky posts and they will make a new post, so the purpose of a sticky is lost.

We will be SWARMED with reactions, reviews and conversation over the next weeks, so just buckle up and enjoy the ride! The mods will be working hard to keep the forums as clean as possible.

There's no real need for it to be a sticky. It's better to keep refreshing the thread. Here are the links to the 7 others if people want to keep up:

Part 7
Part 6
Part 5
Part 4
Part 3
Part 2
Part 1
Part X

Edit: Altaira beat me to it.

In my opinion [In reply to] Can't Post

This message board dearly needs to change 2 things:

1. Make it so the active threads are at the TOP. If someone comments on a thread, it is pushed to the top of the page. Makes it much easier to follow the active threads, and you don;t need to make new ones whenever they get bumped. Nobody wants to reply to a post on page 3, because almost nobody will see it.

2. Get rid of the "subject" requirement. Why does every single post need one? They all end up being "well, hmm, yes.....). For non registered users, getting rid of the collapsible format and making it look normal would help, and the subjects wouldn't be needed.

it be better to upgrade the forums to vbulleten to make the threads much easier to follow and self bump themselves, but hey I'm not the owner of the biggest Tolkien fan site on the internet. ; )

Agreed and Signed [In reply to] Can't Post

In regards to forum changes.

And yeah, back to topic: I stated it at the very end of the previous thread right as Nagini6 made the new one, but we definitely have another negative review coming from Eric Kohn at indieWire, so brace for that.

This has come up occasionally - but the consensus among the TORn community is that the forum as is, is fine. And there are many that like this format. I have no problems with it. If you think this format is odd ... check out the old TORn forum ...

Fun exercise, but ultimately meaningless [In reply to] Can't Post

Seems to be a tradition here now, the gathering of the reviews and reaction to those reviews. Reminds me though, of the fact that MY review is what matters. My brother and I agree that District 9 is one of the best movies out there, but then along comes Man of Steel and we totally disagree. There just isn't any one person out there I can use as a barometer. I've loved movies that critics have both panned and praised.

Ultimately it's the subject matter that will draw me in. A movie like Black Swan, which I believe had a lot of critical praise, just doesn't interest me. Never went to see it. I dig PJ's adaptation of Middle Earth, so I'm going to go see this.

Arthur: What manner of man are you that can summon up fire without flint or tinder?
Tim: I... am an enchanter.
Arthur: By what name are you known?
Tim: There are some who call me... 'Tim'...?
Arthur: ...greetings, Tim the Enchanter.

That's not what I am saying at all ... [In reply to] Can't Post

It has been bought up occasionally, and opinions and suggestions have been swapped, since I have been here and long before I have been here. However, the consensus has always been the same having weighed out the pros and cons of both arguments. That's not a hole-y suggestion box. And neither does it mean that the discussion should never come up again.

I'm not a messenger for the majority nor the admins, so I'm not the best person to discuss it. Elskidor has takem the initiative and has posted in the Feedback board. Maybe you will join in there.

But this has nothing to do with The Hobbit or reviews and reactions ....

There will be [In reply to] Can't Post

The movie only just premiered in LA last week and embargo lifted yesterday. There will be more reviews. Also you have to remember, it premieres in Berlin on Monday etc. There will be more reviews leading up to the opening on Thursday night at midnight. the bulk will come after that though.

Very disappointing Average Rating on RT so far. [In reply to] Can't Post

Even below the first chapter. I know it is going to change and there are still tons of reviews to be released, but the early vibe of "DOS" would be much better received by critics than the first movie is almost completely gone. "DOS" seems to be much more controversial than the very early reactions did imply.

I blame RT [In reply to] Can't Post

They have published 2 (negative) reviews today only - but there are about 7 positive that came out today also and they aren't on RT yet. I have no idea why they are taking their time but it is definitely frustrating.
