In a quick search of LinkedIn today I found: 3 people called Frodo 22 people called Arwen 6 people called Elrond (for 4 of them as a surname) 4 people called Eowyn (3 as a surname) 9 people called Galadriel (5 as a surname) 10 Legolas' (5 as a surname) 0 Gimilis And the surprise one: 21 people called Sauron (all as a surname)

His given middle name is John but he has 'adopted' Faramir.
Manwe, when asked a simple "Yes" or "No" question, contemplated, and responded "the middle one."

and she's the second I've met in real life. Both were tall blondes who sing, so appropriately named. The guy behind the desk at my gym is Thorin.

There seem to be a lot of Thorins as family name (on linked in I gave up at 40). I wonder whether it was an unremarkable name somewhere before Tolkien?

there used to be a private midwifery agency called something like "Lothlorien Midwifery Service" and the woman who owned the business was called Galadriel- that was her real name- can't remember the surname. I cannot think of any others off hand

But I wouldn't even answer a job offer from someone named Sauron. Though on the bright side, you would know what you were getting into. Other than seeing an author's first name as "Eowyn" on a book, I haven't encountered any real-life names. When I asked on the Pollantir if people would choose Tolkien names for their kids, the most popular were Luthien, Arwen, Eowyn, and Beren. I checked LinkedIn just now for Luthien since there weren't any in your list, and saw a few in China. Maybe that's an existing name there, or maybe they're Tolkien fans. I know a woman whose first name is Neruda (her parents adored Pablo Neruda). Do you suppose anyone has a first name of Tolkien?

Tolkien fans would find these names awesome upon meeting these folks. But I imagine that they'd get quite a bit of teasing in school from the "mundanes." I would be tempted to name a pet Arwen or Eowyn or Frodo but I'm not sure I'd name my child that and ask them to go through life with it.

Because Starlings can often have vicious fights (which I'm sure I've said before ;-) ), and so do wargs.
Are you Daisy? Is your full name Warg Daisy Starling? It has a nice ring to it.

but I guess it depends on whether or not their peers know the Tolkien names. There are so many different names around now, including "made up" names, and also names from a variety of different cultures, that the "conventional" names can be in the minority sometimes. The names Arwen, and even Eowyn, could pass as Celtic /Welsh names in the UK, as could Morwen (Morwenna is an old Cornish name and was quite popular a few years ago). Arwen sounds similar to the Welsh name Eirwen. But I cannot think of others which would pass muster. I think most Hobbit names are best kept for pets- even so, I wasn't sure I wanted to call my cat Frodo or Bilbo (my original choices) because the thought of going up and down my road, calling "Frodo" when he went a-wandering was a tad embarrassing

Having a mundane name might mean that you don't get teased about your name, but it doesn't necessarily mean you don't get teased. And, having a mundane name myself, I went through a teen period of wishing I had a more unusual one. I remember thinking that "Athelstan" would have been fine, but I don't suppose I'd have liked it really.
