I doubt that's Smaug's head, or even WETA for that matter.

It looks as if it could be - but then, would they give it away like that? The head is also rather wolf-like... The thing that caught my eye is this:
the first look at footage from The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug will be included on the blu-ray/dvd release of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Will it? That sounds as if there's footage from DOS on the AUJ DVD, and I haven't heard that before.

I'm not pretty sure but I found this picture in the internet when I was searching for inspirations for my own TH theater play. It was Australian or Canadian... BTW: Here is the link to my own stage version threat of The Hobbit from 2012. It might me interesting to some of you: My own version of The Hobbit

... quite some time ago. And it has nothing to do with movie Smaug, as far as I recall. Huh. What is it then? Also, this is the first time I've seen the sneak peak referred to as the first screening of the DOS trailer. That's more specific than showing some footage. This italian site is doing it too: http://www.bestmovie.it/news/il-trailer-di-lo-hobbit-la-desolazione-di-smaug-e-alle-porte-scoprite-come-godervelo-in-anteprima/210350/

Is a trailer (or a teaser trailer) then? That actually sounds less revealing than I thought it might be.

Remember back in LOTR when they put the teaser at the end of the film right before it left the cinema? I think now instead of doing that this is the way they are doing it. They are having a streaming event (because it reaches more people that way. Makes sense from a marketing perspective I think)

I thought we'd see a new kind of dragon. With a traditional design they'll have to do something spectacular to give Smaug some impact of originality. Can't wait to see what they have up their collective sleeves.

One of the comments points out that the official logo omits the word "The" from the film's title. IMO it's better with the THE as it flows with the other titles. "THE Fellowship..." "THE Two Towers" "THE Return..." "THEre and Back Again"

I remember seeing this photo and story back at the end of 2012. Jackson was not in the shot. The original story was out there. Since Smaug is going to be digital I took it as this is really concept stuff they are doing and a basis for how he will look just in general. I'm sure they will put CGI touches on him to make him look unique and awesome.

If this means that this is yet another thing that is going to be put on Twitter or Facebook, that counts me out. I don't wish to partake in either.

I think this is a second rate site recycling information that's already been announced by everywhere else. When they hear sneak peek or footage, they take it to mean "trailer". I tend to side with the studio's statement, rather than a comic book site.

This way it most likely reaches more people. Pure and simple. The movie is gone from theatres so from a marketing perspective this makes sense.
