The people of Dale I found very fascinating: Firstly, they were very multicultural and multi-colourful, which is brilliant! There were people of all sorts of garments and backgrounds. You say 'ordered and refined', I'd also add 'jovial and diverse.' Some of the soldiers (I'd say most of them) had very clear Asiatic, Steppe nomadic style inspirations in their clothing and weaponry. Those helmets which you say might be Gondorian, to me they looked quite Turkish or Mongol, with a pointy top and fur lined. ^that's awesome news as I'd always wanted some more eastern influence in the films! thanks Gramma!

Nice post! I have some things to add: At Azanulbizar Thorins beard is cut short oppose to the longer beard he has in the prologue. In goblin town Nori actually has a line not very easily spotted. After Gandalf rescues them and the company begin to throw their wepons to eachother, Nori is lying on his back holding the sheathed Orcrist and calls out "Thorin!" just in time for Thorin to take Orcrist from it's sheat and deflect the great goblins skull-club. I have alot of observations from Azanulbizar, that I listed a couple of days ago. Here is a link to my post: http://newboards.theonering.net/...;;page=unread#unread 130: Where do you see Gloin and Bifur in Azanulbizar? I don't remember them and I have really looked at this scene many times. Also some corrections: 14: Balin is not present at this scene. It is just a random Dwarf holding the small chest. 83: It is Nori not Ori. (you have them confused a couple of times. Aswell as Oin and Ori. I guess this is just typos as a ressult of this huge list ) 336: It is not Bofur but Nori who steps on Dwalins head to reach the tree. This can be seen by the goblin sabre, that Nori picked up in goblin town, dangling from his side. Well that's what I just briefly have to add from a quick glance. Very good work keep updating!!!

Correct me if I'm wrong but Bilbo appears to have a map of Gondor and the surrounding mountains hanging up on his wall, despite him and frodo seeming pretty ignorant of the outside world. Granted this could be a reference to the shire being part of the future reunited kingdom, but I thought it was a little stupid. Also all the dwarves apprently had elemnts of their clothes reflecting the colour of their hoods mentioned in the books.
‘As they came to the gates Cirdan the Shipwright came forth to greet them. Very tall he was, and his beard was long, and we was grey and old, save that his eyes were keen as stars; and he looked at them and bowed, and said ‘All is now ready.’ Perhaps the most fascinating Individual in Middle Earth

hang above the fireplace, just as they did in LOTR. I was specifically looking for that little tidbit! Also, does Frodo take a red apple with him as he goes off with his book? I seem to recall that he does and thought it was a nice little bit of continuity with all the apples in LOTR. Nice work, gramma! I've been looking forward to this!

I think it's important to note that Sting tells Bilbo in this way that Gollum is capable of kililng, and that Gollum is not an orc/goblin.

fighting the goblins on a platform between bridges? He is seen from directly over his head, and wielding a long staff or stick, twirling it all around him as he turns in circles, and knocking goblins left and right. It looks awesome, but I can't tell who it is because the best look I can get of him is the top of his head.

you can see his fat lip. RA spoke of getting his lip bashed during filming and he and Andy Serkis decided to keep shooting, because the make up people would have a hard time duplicating the fat lip. I *love* that! (Here, let Alassëa kiss it and make it all better... ) It makes me think of Viggo's broken toe!

How can you tell, though? Does Oin carry a staff that I just haven't noticed yet? Or can you tell by his clothes? The scene is so fast it's hard for me to see anything but that awesome stick-work.

...but I saw enough to make his features out; The grey hair, the "pig-tail" braid on the top of his head, the iron-quarterstaff (might technically be a two-handed mace, but the mace-head is so small it could easily pass for a quarterstaff). I also think Balin was with him, just at the left edge of the screen. Of course, I have had all these features memorized for more than a year now, so I think I recognize them almost subconsciously; "Grey hair, quarterstaTHAT'S ÓIN! Mutton chopBOMBUR! BOMBUR! But the only time we see the room from that angle in LotR is at the very end of RotK, so there's no way to know if they were there while Bilbo was working on his book in FotR. I always assumed Frodo grabbed an Uruk-hai helmet, a ranger sword, and what looked like an Easterling sword after the War of the Ring and brought them back with him. Now I guess we have to assume that Bilbo acquired them at some point, probably from the troll cave on the way back. It's still hard to tell whether the helmet on the wall, which looks the same as the one Frodo picks up, is an Uruk-hai helmet or not. The crest looks bigger to me, and something about the overall shape seems different. I'm not sure what kind of helmet it would be though.
