so i noticed that 2 scenes in the hobbit trailer were not in the movie at all and i was wondering why. im sure PJ had his reasons to cut them out but one of them really puzzled me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0k3kHtyoqc in that trialler theres a clip of bilbo walking past the anduril in rivendal. this part was not in the movie at all and i was wondering why because im sure bilbo would ask what the sword was and would be told about suroan and the ring.. also there is another clip of gandalf and thrain II fighting in Dol Guldur, this is also not in the movie.

They already spent what felt like an eternity in Rivendell, so they likely removed that scene to quicken the pace. The Thrain scene will either be a flashback in an upcoming film, or likely relegated to the EE as well. It will be interesting though because Gandalf is perplexed that Radagast found evil in Dol Guldur. He should have found evil there when he found Thrain. Or, perhaps Gandalf and Radagast will meet up to go to Dol Guldur alone and find Thrain there for the first time, creating all sorts of continuity errors, and then Gandalf will call for Galadriel's help and she'll show up with a bunch of elves to take down Dol Guldur in the second movie. I wouldn't put it past PJ.

The first you scene you mentioned will most likely be included in the EE of AUJ. The second scene you mention will probably be included in DOS.

About half of the shots in the initial teaser trailer aren't in the finished film. Some of this is due to the three film split, so many of the scenes will be in the other films. Other scenes, however, just got cut. Bilbo at the market in the Shire, Bilbo seeing Narsil, and Gandalf exploring (not sure if tombs or Dol Guldor). All these got cut for some reason, and I really hope they're in the EE.

Amazing list. Good job! My only problem with this list is that it seems that everything I wanted to see was cut!

I think "there is an inn" and "what did you find?" could still show up in one of the remaining TE's, though.

Nice list. What sources show that those scenes are confirmed by Jackson or Sir Ian to be in the EE?

they already knew some two months before that the story will take place over 3 films? That has been bugging me ever since ...

That shot was of Gandalf exploring the tombs. There was a thread a while back suggesting that this scene was cut from AUJ and should have been between The White Council and Gandalf showing up in goblin town. I'm expecting it in the EE.

Yes, I'm expecting an amazing EE. I'll be supremely disappointed if many of these things are still left out.

but i don't think there's anything there i really miss or that i think would be worthwhile enough at the expense of the film's pacing other than the Gandalf in Dol Goldur/tombs stuff. it's crazy to me that such beautifully shot, evocative material that was highlighted prominently in BOTH trailers would be relegated to the EEs where only the diehards will get to see it. i have to think that we will get some of those shots in DOS, whether it be in flashback or a real-time look at Gandalf's first scouting of Dol Guldur for himself.

When the White Council happened, I just assumed Gandalf would be investigating the tombs that were talked about. It was a little jarring to leave that thread hanging in the film, but similar things happened in the LotR theatrical releases. For example, if you just watch the theatrical version, Brego saving Aragorn makes no sense at all as Brego's connection to Aragorn was never explored in the theatrical. Also, perhaps more famously, "I will break the wizard's staff".
all we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us...

I've been looking forward to the Dol Guldor plot for a long time and all we got was one scene of Radagast fighting the witch-king! I want all the other stuff we were supposed to get. It's especially ridiculous because we've been told time after time that we were going to be told what Gandalf is up to, and the first two times he's gone, we're not shown! Good grief.

the scene was Merry offering his service to Theoden was in the original LOTR trailer in 2000 and did not appear in the films until the extended cut of ROTK in 2004. Trailers are their own beasts and because trailers are outsourced to a different company what appears in the film and vice versa doesn't necessarily match.

i think it's appropriate that in AUJ we get basically just a hint of what's to come there. AUJ had "Riddles in the Dark," which is gonna be a somewhat impossible scene to top in DOS or TABA, but with the Dol Guldur sub-plot getting pushed back a little i really think that gives us almost as much to look forward to in DOS with it, Beorn, Mirkwood, and more of the Grey Elves, Thranduil, and Smaug.

And that the endless action scenes should have been cut so that they could be included.
