A TORn Mathom :)
|
Can't Post

|
I found TORn's "The Hobbit" collector's magazine at my local Stop & Shop over the weekend, and it was such an unexpected pleasant surprise, I wrote a mathom about it. Hope you enjoy :). And P.S. Congratulations to TORn for the great magazine and for getting it such a stellar display spot - it was at eye level right at the corner of the checkout aisles! Twas two days after Thanksgiving and all through the house, there were no leftovers left to feed even a mouse. The apple crumb was just crumbly the gravy like slop, so off I went glumly to the big Stop & Shop. Not feeling festive was I a right grumpy old lady, it seemed this was like holiday food trek number 80. Away to the store I drove in a flash, pulled into a spot scattering carts with a crash. I spoke not a word but went straight to my work, around slow pokes and stuck carts and the occasional clerk. With coffee and list both firmly in grip I'd just settled in for a long shopping trip, When what to my wondering eyes did appear, But Gandalf the Grey, looking very severe! But his eyes, how they twinkled! His eyebrows, how hairy! It was Gandalf, by Jove in all his wizardly bearing. And then I saw - lo! No, not lo, that's a logo! The OneRing.Net Hobbit I shouted out, "Way to go!!" "Behind the Scenes Spy Photos!" Spoilers galore! And "the one special effects genius to really rule them all"! I grabbed me a copy a smile on my face, and through the rest of my shopping I surely did race. At home I read through the magazine there, page after page of Middle-earth fare. And I marveled how well it all was thought out, how shiny and professional it truly turned out. As I turned the last page I wanted to send a big hug, to all those who made it with such care and such love. So to TPTB, thanks for all that you do, for those who love Tolkien as much as you do. There's just one thing more you guessed it, I bet: Happy Hobbit Christmas to all at The One Ring.net

It's nice to know it's still out there and selling (you helped raise a little bit of money for TORn). I'll pass your poem on to TPTB and staff contributors! Thanks again.

I love the way you've incorporated bits of the original poem and made the fit into the story so well. Great job!

LOVE IT! Didn't that magazine turn out to be just FABULOUS!? It's hard to describe to people how professional and beautiful it is! I don't now how the publisher took a very bland list and turned it into a jaw-dropping beauty! *whispers* lookit pgs 52-55 ;) You just lit up my whole day! THANKS!
I really need these new films to take me back to, and not re-introduce me to, that magical world. TORn's Observations Lists Unused Scenes

It was waiting for you:) And thanks for the heads up. That was a FUN mathom my dear. I giggled over: Away to the store I drove in a flash, pulled into a spot scattering carts with a crash. I did that with my old pickup a time or two, even tried to herd them to the roundup spot, but like mossy horns, they have a mind of their own. I am glad you are among us sib:)

right up there at eye level checkout, next to the big boys - the Ladies' Home Journals, the Better Homes & Gardens... (hmm, maybe make that "right next to the big girls" :-)). A great mag and really nice marketing to get it that 'impulse purchase' position in such a big, busy store. It should do really well there. And thank you for passing on my appreciation to the staff :-)!

so unexpectedly seeing that photo of Gandalf there. I knew it was in other stores, but I never expected it to be at my local supermarket. I just stopped & stared at it, with this big goofy geeky grin, and and I guess I had a case of holiday jingles on the brain. Because I had that 'when what to my wondering eyes did appear' thought...and it just went on from there! I'm so glad you enjoyed it :)!

It was a fantastic job. And there's so much in it! It's amazing how much information can be included - and so stylishly, too - in a magazine when there aren't advertisements cluttering it up. And one of the most fun things was trying to spy out the originators of the contributions - I *thought* I detected a Gramma in there on the timeline :-). They did such beautiful visuals for it!

I looked in several places, and ended up having to go to the local Wal-Mart! But I did pick up 3 copies, two of which were then sent to anxious TORnfolks overseas. What's funny is that it never occurred to me to look in the magazine section of my local Stop&Shop, I never go down that aisle!

"And then I saw - lo! .... no, not lo, that's a logo!!" lol .... that captured exactly how I first saw the photo of Gandalf, and didn't realize at first, that it was TORn's magazine. It was so professionally done, at first I thought it was perhaps an Entertainment Weekly or one of those magazines! Then when I moved closer and saw that logo, I was so thrilled & happy, I just let out this big whoopy laugh (I'm sure I startled the people around me :-)). It really was a wonderful moment. I'm so glad you enjoyed it. Thank you !
