Birthday mathom: Galadriel's Prologue, based on Don Henley, the Boys of Summer

Today is my birthday (41) and I would like to celebrate by presenting this mathom...which so happens to be my 41st song parody posted on this board, since I joined on August 9, 2011. Yes, I have counted them (see list below). No, I didn't plan it that way. 41 parodies posted in less than a year, one for each year of my life. What is wrong with me???? This mathom is a tribute to the prologue to LOTR:FOTR movie, which related the "birth" of the troublesome Ring and marked the "birth" of the much-lauded trilogy. This tribute is based on the song by Don Henley (formerly of the Eagles), The Boys of Summer. I thought of it the other day as I was listening to the song, where he sings: "I feel it in the air". First, a small excerpt from the prologue script: (MOVIE SPOILER:)
[Black screen] Narrator (V.O.) I amar prestar aen. The world is changed. Han mathon ne nen. I feel it in the waters. Han mathon ne chae. I feel it in the earth. A han noston ned 'wilith. I smell it in the air. Much that once was is lost. For none now live who remember it. http://cjbannister.users.btopenworld.com/fotrscript.htm. I think most here will remember the rest. And next, links to the source song by Don Henley, which I, as usual, suggest listening to while reading the parody lyrics to follow: http://www.youtube.com/...youtube_gdata_player http://xms.songmeanings.net/m/song/4838/ And now, hopefully with the song already playing in the background, onto the parody lyrics. GALADRIEL'S PROLOGUE I feel it in the earth, I feel the world is changed, I smell it in the air, The water feels as strange. Much that once Was is lost, there's None live who recall, It started long ago: One Ring, to Rule Them All.... I can see you, Your fair face smiling in the sun, You were the Lord of Gifts, we were Under your thumb, baby! I can tell you, we'll rise anew and still be strong Until the power of Sauron has gone. I never will forget those times, I wonder if it was a dream: Remember how the King's sword Narsil Was shattered in that nightmare scene? That's when the son took up his father's sword alone, Swung it so the dark hand fell, And son picked Sauron's Ring up.... I can see you, Your one chance ending evil, gone. Instead you claimed it for yourself and you Floundered when it moved on. I can tell you, the blood from you will still be strong Until the power of Sauron has gone. Out in the world, the Ring, under the Mountains waiting for its Lord's return, Whispers of a nameless fear, where Doom fires burn, where the forging fires burn, So it abandoned Gollum. How could it know Something it had not intended: The unlikeliest creature found it.... I can see you, Your round-doored dwellings in the sun, You got your time come soon, shape the Fortunes of all, baby! I can tell you, though smallest, you will still be strong Until the power of Sauron has gone. I can see you, Your green hills shinin' in the sun, You've lived in shelter, now you'll have to Give us your all, baby! I can tell you, the heart of you will still beat strong Until the power of Sauron has gone. * * * Thanks for reading this. I hope you sang along! A fitting commemorative parody and mathom, my friend! I've said it before and I'll say it again, I love how your brain works! TORn just wouldn't be the same without you creating these wonderful silly songs for us. Many happy returns of the day and may the hair on your toes never fall out.

And of coming up with parodies! (You do realize that your next one must deal with Life, the Universe, and Everything? ) This one is amazing, not only do the words fit in, the song's tempo fits so well! Thank you for another grin-creating opus!

Uh-oh, i don't know if i'll figure how to work Douglas Adams into a Tolkien song parody! Now that would be a mash-up! I have liked the song for a long time. It has a very specific tempo to the vocals/lyrics, which was a bit challenging to work with. This parody was a joy to write and to share. Glad you enjoyed it

"Never say 'never'" is just a saying, it's not supposed to be taken literally I couldn't help but tease! Thanks Xanaeb, sincerely. Genius, wow, I am humbled, thank you again! Yes, i'm happy to say Q and I have been working toward a collaboration, thanx for the encouragement. we're still working out some technical issues, plus scheduling is tough. Wait, what's a radio x? was that meant metaphorically, like a synonym for scuttlebutt? I hadn't heard that one before.

You've found a way to express your creative side that works really well for you and that's never wrong! And who knows where that may lead you some day? The Hobbit started with one line on an exam paper, after all! So here's to many more parodies to come and happy belated Birthday! Go you!

Thank you for helping to make it a happy one. Glad you enjoyed the lyrics too. And if I manage to come across as creative and prolific , I draw inspiration from Tolkien(and/or Jackson), from music that I enjoy, and from like-minded members of this community like yourself, without whom I never would even thought of writing this many Middle-Earth-related parodies. (So its all your fault, you see... )

I should really check Main more often, I always miss stuff. Have you given out all your birthday presents to everyone, in good Hobbit tradition? Because I didn't receive anything! This parody is terrific! It's 2:16am here, so I can't play it out loud. But You bet I will first thing tomorrow morning If radio x is anything like television x then it's nothing to do with me

birthday presents to everyone....check. (ahem, "birthday mathom" hello? You didn't receive anything??? I give and I give... ) Thanks partner, I'm glad you liked. This might be worth trying out, do you reckon? I might be able to jam/chat tomorrow, around same time as before, for a little while. If so I'll drop a line. Then after that, my day is shot-- but in a pleasant way, as my birthday celebration continues

Excellent work, and happy birthday. I'm glad you didn't disappear on your birthday! :)
The last green had almost faded out of the grass, when they came at length to an open glade not far above the banks of the stream. "Hrnmm! It smells like elves!" thought Bilbo, and he looked up at the stars. They were burning bright and blue.

Glad you thought well of it, and thank you also for being glad I didn't disappear, which was a lovely thing you said. Each day I manage not to disappear from the lives of my family and from this world I am grateful, especially after what happened yesterday in Aurora, CO. And I'm not ready to pull a Bilbo. I still like it in this, our Shire.

Ok thanks, now i know what that means.. cuz I heard it here on the X, yo! If I end up thinking of a worthy parody for the ZZTop song, I'll be surprised . Those guys kinda look like Istari though, Wizards of Cool. There's a parody music video in there somewhere. Maybe a parody of a different song, like Gimme All Your Loving. Gimme all your ... And thanks for the fabulous mathom! It really works! And 41 y.o.? Oh, you kid! ETA: A Middle-earth spin on ZZ Top? Yes, please. Any would do, but speaking for myself, I'm wondering what you could do with "Sharp-Dressed Man," but, hey, I am not the parody artiste!
