Who knits for the dwarves? Can't Post

Also titled: How to resurrect an old joke... and then drive it into the ground! Cool

So, many of us know that around here knitting is regarded as something of a femine hobby. Whether it's Oin's awesome gloves (seriously, they match his beard!) or Bofur's awesome scarf (it's striped!) or Ori's awesome cardigan (two-toned, even!) or any number of gloves, hoods, etc. many of the dwarves are sporting some well-made knitted pieces.

Who does all this knitting in dwarven society? Are these knitted by dwarven mothers and wives back home? (I hope that sweater wasn't made by Ori's girlfriend) Is it something the dwarves do in their travels to keep them busy on the road? And can one knit on pony-back? Did they all stop by Knitting R Us on their way out of town? Or did the dwarves learn to knit after trade broke down with the elves and they lost access to that fine weaving?

Anyone here today who can answer these knotty questions?

I thought Ori himself, Adam Brown said: [In reply to] Can't Post

That his character is an expert on knittings and such things (he said it one of the v-logs)

It's not exactly guarenteed [In reply to] Can't Post

I mean, all he said was, "But if you like knitted cardigans and knitted mittens, then I'm your fella!". Could just be a reference to his very feminine persona. I mean Graham McTavish didn't seem to be expecting what he said, which might either point to him not knowing or it not really being a character element, but rather an extension of character traits. We'll find out soon enough, I think!

The sweater curse? [In reply to] Can't Post

I never heard of that---but boy, did it ever happen to me, many years ago. Fortunately I have a cousin who was the right size, so he got the sweater.

I knitted a sweater for the man I've been married to several decades now Shocked but I can't remember whether I did it before or after the actual marriage. At least THAT one didn't curse me!

Early knitting was guild controlled [In reply to] Can't Post

Therefore it was done by the men (dwarf men), and I am sure that Ori (Adam Brown) is just waiting for his book 'Great Dwarf Knitting Patterns' to be published.Cool

Seems Bifur's girlfriend didn't care for his reaction to a very special knitted axe cosy. ;)

It's part of Bifur's physical therapy. [In reply to] Can't Post

Along with his speech therapy and occupational therapy.

Don't think I'd fancy knitting with a beard..... [In reply to] Can't Post

that's knitting yarn, but having beard attached to chin, of course! Something I've never tried, but I suspect it would be difficult to keep the beard out of the pattern....
