John Callen talks "The Hobbit" with 2nd graders Can't Post

Cute little story I stumbled upon: John "Oin" Callen visited his granddaughter's school in Australia, and talked about his experiences working on "The Hobbit":

http://lcgswordworlds.wordpress.com/...sits-junior-library/

He showed the kids a rubbery cast of his face, shared some war stories and signed autographs. Aww.

Perhaps of equal interest to the Ringers here: is that a new image of the barrel riding scene in the background of the second photo? I thought it was part of a video at first, but it looks like it's just a still.

Interesting [In reply to] Can't Post

Others have noticed that Thorin's design has also changed. Wonder how this will work out in the film. I wonder if they they had to reshoot scenes, or just leave the inconsistency in.

Before and after colorgrading ;) [In reply to] Can't Post

That's the explanation for that :)
His face is much more red in the non-graded picture too :)

Must be the case painjoiker Smile

The picture with the redder face looks better though - more realistic. He looks to pale in the second.

That's very decent of him, Callen seems a nice guy [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm looking forward to his portrayal of Oin, in particular his herbalist/medic characteristics.

One thing confuses me about Oin though, what is his weapon? Is it meant to be a two-handed mace similar to Dori's? Or something else?

Yes, my username is terrible.

Where's baby Gimli? [In reply to] Can't Post

Hehee...what a nice thing for Callen to do (I actually seem to recall James Nesbiit doing something similar, but it was before his involvement with TH). Definitely seems like a stand-up guy (and Oin is getting every more interesting the more we hear about him).

My Top 5 Wish List for "The Hobbit"
5. Legolas will surf down Smaug's neck
4. Bilbo will be revealed to a Robot
3. Naked PJ cameo as Ghan-Buri-Ghan
2. Use of not only 3D, but smell-o-vision, plus the inclusion of axes coming out of the seats and poking the audience when appropriate
1. Not only keep the claim that Thorin & Co. ran amok in Mirkwood "molesting people", but depict said incident in vivid detail!!!!!
