I know it's a way off, but there's going to be a very special birthday that's also an anniversary that's also a celebration all wrapped into one! September 22nd is 4 short weeks away. It's Bilbo and Frodo's birthdays, it's also falling on Tolkien Week AND it's the 75th anniversary of The Hobbit publication! *whispers* It's actually the September 21st(1937;) but after 75 years, we'll hold off for a day ;)
You KNOW this means we MUST have a party! I'm giving you the heads-up WAY in advance so your muse has time to be creative. If you have a game, a fanfic challenge, artwork, anything at all that comes to mind to observe this perfectly-timed and action-packed celebration... please say so here. PLUS, it's less than 4 months before the release of Peter Jackson's adaptation of The Hobbit...! It's a perfect storm! :D
So dash yourselves on the proverbial rocks and let's start planning! What you YOU like to do?

I'm not very creative (I wouldn't be able to come up with some brilliant pictures like Magpie, or parody lyrics like Ruxendil_Thoorg), but I can draw up a Hobbit book quiz? I'd expect everyone to do do brilliantly, of course  .

maybe a Mad Lib. I'm no good at mad libs, but I'd be happy to come up with some Pun Parameters (Limit it to single, double and triple puns having to do at least initially with rings, or dragons or something)!

word scramble - cryptograms - Who said that? - whatever... and then think how you could apply it to the Hobbit (or birthdays? - gramma, are we going for a particular focus?).
Pretty much, if you think it's fun, the rest of us are up for it.
Not all the threads in these sorts of events and celebrations are games. Some can be reminiscent in nature. And I'd say we don't to stick to what's in the pages of the Hobbit. It can be about the publication of the Hobbit. How many languages has the Hobbit been translated into - sort of thing.
Or maybe something involving books about the Hobbit - like the Annotated Hobbit. Or about the animated cartoon or the BBC radio drama. Think about it. If something comes to you, don't worry about trying to fit into what we've done in the past. It's a community created event so it changes with the members of the community.
