Punk Parody #4 - the Ramones encore, with Lou Reed bonus: two "walking" songs
|
Can't Post
|
|
And finally we come to the fourth and final installment of this punk-genre parody song series. Anything punk begins and ends with the Ramones, one might argue, and so shall it be here. This one is based on "Rock and Roll High School". I call it "A Hobbit Walking Song of Walking" because it's meant to be a Hobbit walking song, of sorts, and the word "walking" is mentioned...a lot. Alternate title: "Walkin' to Mount Doom". A HOBBIT WALKING SONG OF WALKING, or WALKIN’ TO MOUNT DOOM A parody of the Ramones, Rock and Roll High School http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tx8fPaZL3MQ http://www.lyrics007.com/...School%20Lyrics.html http://grooveshark.com/...and+roll+high+school Walk walk walk walk walkin' to Mount Doom As I leave home, I must beware Walk walk walkin' to Mount Doom 'Cause Sauron hunts the Ring I bear Walk walk walkin' to Mount Doom I just have to take a trip I just need a Fellowship Walk walk walk walk walkin' to Mount Doom Well the Fellowship's broken up, you know, Walk walk walkin' to Mount Doom No one but Sam with whom to go Walk walk walkin' to Mount Doom Guided by a creature who was named Smeagol Fate will see how he plays a role Walk walk walk walk walkin' to Mount Doom Walk walk walk walk walkin' to Mount Doom Long long walkin' to Mount Doom Long long walkin' to Mount Doom Long long walkin' to Mount Doom Long long so thirsty Long long so hungry Long long (Long long) Walk walk walk walk walkin' to Mount Doom Walk walk walk walk walkin' to Mount Doom Walk walk walk walk walkin' to Mount Doom I don't care for my destiny Walk walk walkin' to Mount Doom 'Cause that's not where I want to be Walk walk walkin' to Mount Doom I just wanna take a trip I just wanna take a ship Walk walk walk walk walkin' to Mount Doom Walk walk walk walk walkin' to Mount Doom Long long walkin' to Mount Doom Long long walkin' to Mount Doom Long long walkin' to Mount Doom Long long so thirsty Long long so hungry Long long (Long long) Walk walk walk walk walkin' to Mount Doom Walk walk walk walk walkin' to Mount Doom Walk walk walk walk walkin' to Mount Doom Walk walk walk walk walkin' to Mount Doom *BONUS * BONUS * BONUS * And next comes, another parody song, which is also about Walking. This one is not a "punk" parody in the strictest sense, so I don't consider it part of the series. It's a tribute to the five Istari, based on Lou Reed's Walk on the Wild Side. I call the parody "Walk on the Wise Side": WALK ON THE WISE SIDE A parody of Lou Reed, Walk on the Wild Side: http://www.youtube.com/...youtube_gdata_player (with lyrics) Sarry, Chief Istar, M-A-I-A, Pitched up a home across the Isen way. Bred some Uruks on the way, Sold his soul and then he had a scheme, He said "Hey, babe, take a walk on the Eye's side." He said "Hey, Gandalf, take a chill on the topside." Gandy came from out in the West lands. When his fires bloomed, he was every party's darlin'. Gandy never lost his head. Faced the Balrog, seeing red, He said "Hey, babe, DON’T YOU PASS!!! Stay on your side!" Yelled: "Fly, fools!" Took a dive to the low side. Elves from Rivendell go: Tra lala lala lally la La lala lala lally la... (Tra lala lala lally la La lala lala lally la....) Radagast never once gave it away Every birdy kept the foes at bay A council here, a tussle there, Drove a sleigh that was pulled by hares, He said "Hey, babe, take a seat on the inside" He said, "Hey, bunnies, take us round to the far side." Alatar and Pallando hit the East Looking to do the Valar's will, at least, Wandered yon in robes of blue, Disappeared into the blue, We ask, "Hey guys, what went on in the East side?" We're like "Hey wizards, what's the story from your side?" Gandy had just fallen away, Thought he was deep sixed, as they say, When he passed into the light, Valar had him all decked in White, And said, "Hey, babe, head on back Middle Earth side." They said, "Hey Olórin, keep it up for the good side." Halls of Mandos farewell: Tra lala lala lally la la Lala lala lally la la.... (Tra lala lala lally la La lala lala lally la....)

I hadn't heard that Ramones song before, but loved it. As for Lou Reed, I was singing along reading the lyrics and at "Drove a sleigh that was pulled by hares" I had to stop due to laughter, good work! If I/we get round to recording either 'Walk on the West Side' or 'Surfin' Down the Stairs' I will have to work on trying to keep a straight face

" I just have to take a trip I just need a Fellowship " " I just wanna take a trip I just wanna take a ship " I also like how you managed to sneak an actual line from the song in there....( cause that's not where I wanna be ) BTW....I do believe as you do that anything punk begins and ends with the Ramones (although some serious Iggy and the Stooges fans might disagree...) The Ramones are on my top 10 all-time favorite artists list, and Tolkien is my favorite writer, so it's great fun to see them morph like this : ) Cheers !

"Take a Walk on the Eye's Side" is one of my all time favs. Thanks for the elvish singing, which I have been anticipating in AUJ. ("lala lala lally" is Sindarin, isn't it?)

And I'm glad you have discovered the source Ramones song. I consider it quintessential Ramones. 'Rock and Roll High School' may be their biggest-profile single, due to the eponymous 1979 Roger Corman movie in which the actual band appeared. Probably my favorite Ramones song of all time, along with I Wanna Be Sedated. It turns out, the parody I posted was an early draft, which I posted by mistake. I have posted the current lyrics a moment ago. Glad you enjoyed the "bonus", thanks! Hopefully we'll work out a duet sometime soon. Tried to reach you on googletalk this Saturday, it appears you were offline. Enjoying the afternoon I hope!

And, good point about Iggy & the Stooges. I may have to do a fifth installment in the series, I wouldn't want to leave them neglected. It's cool that you're into the Ramones.. May they RIP. They are immortal, in punk rock, much like how Tolkien is immortal in literature. Remember that cover of Louis Armstrong, "What a Wonderful World"? It may have been a Joey R. solo work, but still. I heard it for the first time on the radio right after the news that he'd died. I thought, what an appropriate swan song, y'know?

and it has so much more weight since Joey covered it. I was bummed for a couple weeks when Johnny passed too...then Dee Dee. The Ramones have been a part of my life since I can recall( I was born in '72, but my sis used to blast the first album to irritate my parents ) I cannot forsee a point in my life when their music will not be a steady part of the listening rotation....I have 87 Ramones songs in the ipod right now

at "Elves from Rivendell go: Tra lala lala lally la" Fantastic as always. Reminds me I should finish up a parody I have sitting undone.
For instance, on the planet Earth, man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much -- the wheel, New York, wars, and so on -- while all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time. But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man, for precisely the same reasons. -- Douglas Adams

Funny stuff! I still prefer 'Sharkey' to 'Sarry' but maybe that's the Tolkien purist in me.

Sharkey would work also, good point. I went w Sarry only bc i thought it sounded a bit more like the lyric in the source song and as a reference to Gandy, i.e. Sarry, Gandy, Raddy, Ally, Pally, from a discussion thread a whiles back. Sharkey is truer to the book as you said. Fun fun fun! No such thing as too many LOTR songs based on the Beach Boys

Your lyrics are really clever. I love the Ramones, Lou Reed and Tolkien! What a great combination.
