Definitely I am happy with these three but Bombur is awesome, so cute! These dwarves rock, the hot ones Kili and Fili included, and I will be pleased to see some fun with all these guys together. Bombur will make me laugh Hopefully, I love the dwarves, the Hobbit ones they are funny.

The background has been photoshopped in, so I guess something went (very) wrong with trying to blend the edges of Kili in to the background? Either that or perhaps they were trying to tweak the pose of his hand. All sorts of weird things are done with photoshop!

That these photos are green-screened. My guess is that may have been an error in the automated edge-blending (which is pretty amazing, otherwise and better than any I've seen.) That kind of error makes you nervous, though.

For sure, you can tell they are. All promo shots are done this way, you see them every year for tv shows. Actors are shot individually (to ensure everyone has the best look/pose) and then merged together. I don't think they'll have been shot against green screen though, shots like this are either done on a white background or on a set (if shot requires an elaborate background, like the Battlestar/Lost 'last supper' photos, it's easier to take photos of the actors posed on the set on by one and then merge them together than to insert the background). These have been shot on a plain background, as you can tell from the feet that the background we see is not what they were originally standing on. You can tell that they were shot individually too, from where the characters have been placed over each other (i.e. where they 'overlap'). The person doing the photoshop work would've probably first grouped them together, then put the background in, and finally worked on the details (such as blending the edges with the background and adding in fake shadows). I doubt it was fully automated either, work like this needs to be done by hand. Something went horribly wrong when they were doing Kili's hand though. No idea why it wasn't caught. The rest of the work looks fairly good. Ironically, the rest of the Kili/Fili image is actually a lot better than the others!

I'm guessing Aidan didn't have his sword during the photoshoot, so he had to fake holding one, and thus held his hands in a position that didn't quite fit the picture they had of the sword. The person who photoshopped it either forgot to hide a layer or was trying to be an amazingly fast photoshopper who consequently didn't pay attention to what he was doing.

I posted it in the Oin/Gloin thread: If you compare the backgrouinds of Oin/Gloin and Nori/Ori/Dori, you find that they're the same but slightly metamorphosed between the two (the shapes have changed organically and have shifted in position relative to one another.) To me, it indicates that the background was either action-footage of some kind of fog wall or else cgi of a moving pattern, with the two photos being several frame elapses apart. It's not something that would have occurred as a result of 'shop blending, to my eye. Of course, it is still possible that they used individual frames of footage and inserted them into the white background as you describe... wand, lasso, feathering, etc.. But the edges still have a different look that I'm not used to, and I just thought they might be taking advantage of some of the new capabilities they're using for editing composite shots in the film.
