TORn History Scavenger Hunt : Special Halloween Edition
|
Can't Post
|
|
And yet there lie in Denethor's hoards many records that few now can read, even of the lore-masters, for their scripts and tongues have become dark to later men.
Warning! This Special Edition Scavenger Hunt is for the stout-hearted only! This weeks hunt involves 10 links. At the end of each link lies a spooky, scary, eerie, disturbing or just plain Halloweeny image residing in TORn' Scrapbook. Normally, visiting TORn's Scrapbook is a fun, lighthearted venture. But not today. Today... the way is as dark as the Paths of the Dead. Your task, should you take it on, will be to visit these links and return (if you can) to tell us what lies on the other side. Double points will be given for witty answers. But I don't suggest you visit them. No, I don't (do I, precious?). I suggest you back out of this thread as quickly as Farmer Maggot's dog backed away from that Black Rider. He was smart. Are you? For those who just won't listen, here are the links.
- This link is beyond any of you. Run!
- Fly you fools!
- What madness would drive you in there?
- Leave now and never come back!
- Flee! Flee for your lives!
- Dark have been the links of late.
- None who venture here ever return. This link is evil
- I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me.
- You are naked in the dark with no veil between you and the wheel of fire!
- Don't follow the link!
You have been warned!

I attended the exhibit in Houston but of course had no photos. Thanks for pointing us to the Scrapbook link.

than these in the deep places of my hard drive! *glances at "BotR" folder* Bwahahahaha! What a fun way to get in the "spirit" of the holiday, Magpie, thank you! 1. Elijah Wood caught before make-up on one of those extremely-early call mornings. They do a marvellous job, don't they! 2. Contrary to popular rumor, it was not a tennis ball they used during the filming of the Bridge of Khazad-Dum scene, it was a small pumpkin, with a cleverly carved a Balrog face on it and internally lit, to give Sir Ian a bit more to "work" with! Having a flaming squash suspended over his head helped add realism to his performance. 3. My, what big teeth you have, granny! And tongue, and horns, and leash... Or: What's a naz-gūrl like you doing hanging around here? 4. Proof that TORn does not discriminate on the basis of race, gender, or alien species when hiring staff. 5. Lurz's reaction upon comparing his paycheck with New Line's take from the movies. 6. Elijah wasn't the only actor who could fall asleep between takes: here we see Sean Bean finding a quiet spot during the filming of the Lórien departure scenes. 7. Ian Holm's audition for the role of Zaphod Beelbebrox in "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy". 8. Ah, the lovely and enchanting Calisurwen! 9. No comment - let's just say, it's a very good thing that the other side was not shown! 10. Now you, too, can dress up like a famous author and get annoying phone calls in the middle of the night from hippie fans across the Water! This 1966 mask was not a best seller...

1. Elijah was not happy with the partially completed map of M-e rivers. 2. Webkinz present, just in time for Halloween, glow-in-the-dark Balkinz 3. "Bassy" the Fell Beast? 4. You go first! I have the *real* hammer. 5. Lon Chaney, Jr.? 6. Boromir has no blankie! Boromir needs no blankie! 7. Scary smile contest? 8. Call the fashion police--boot alert! 9. Stop!!! That tickles. 10. Deranged fan's attempt to get into Tolkien's head and see through his eyes.

Thanks for the treat -- here's my best attempt at wittiness... 1.Aiee! It's Brittany Spears! 2.You must be over 3 feet tall to enter the Hall of Horror. 3.Got Scope? 4.Dude, remember that time we got really hammered? 5.Me, before I have my coffee in the morning. 6. Best...paperweight...ever! 7.It's the guy from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy! 8. Why, that's a picture of my old school principal! 9. Why you should never be sick the day they hand out the Gollum painting assignments. 10. Makes every change Peter Jackson made look ok, somehow.

I have no idea if any of these will be witty but here I go, (perhaps I should say that I go where dwarves dare not.) 1. It's Frodollum or Frodo-gollum or creepy Frodo or what ever he was supposed to be 2. Ooh a Balrog Pumpkin, It even glows with an inner gleam like the original or is it the original in disguise? 3. Nazgul! or technically a fell beast and it probably has bad breath 4. Evil alieny creature with hammers maybe related to the stooges? 5. "Arr! Where's my cell phone?" growls the Uruk-hai 6. Oh poor Boromir. "Alas poor Yorrick I knew him well." 7. Mad Bilbo Baggins who leaves with a bang and returns with treasure. 8. Eeeek. Okay this image may actually haunt my nightmares.(jk) This image seems to be a burly Arwen. 9. It's the Headless Horseman's elderly cousin headless Golllum. 10. It's the scary head of the famous author. I will say this has been one of the easier hunts but it was still very fun.
What happened when Legolas and Aragorn road with Eomer in the van. Aragorn: Eomer, Legolas has his bow on my side of the seat! Legolas: Well Aragorn keeps slapping me while practicing his "heroic" poses. Eomer: Don't make me turn this van around.

I'm ready for some candy! I know one answer -- Halloween is Peter Jackson's birthday. I guess that is the moderately well known answer? Is the Uber Obvious one that this was originally posted on Halloween on TORn? BTW, I like Three Musketeers bars and Dots...

1) "What do you mean 'the script says I send Sam home'?!" 2) Now lit by the Flame of Arnor... 3) Sorry, this just isn't a cool pic without someone climbing in there. 4) Maybe taking a Barad-dur construction break to sing "I'm a little teapot" wasn't such a great idea after all... 5) "Admins, SPAM was just posted in the Reading Room!" 6) "I hope diedye gets back with my cigarette soon..." 7) A Ringer Spy sent this scan of WETA's fearsome snarling Bilbo mask (shown in the foreground) that was used in the scene in Rivendell in FoTR. 8) I couldn't figure out the scary part here 'til I noticed the half-lady in the blue-green sweater on the right side of this picture (Doctor: "Well, we've successfully cut her in half. Oh crud, you mean she wasn't a conjoined twin?!") 9) Weta instantly regrets modeling Gollum on the Baby Alive doll 10) Shudder. There is nothing more scary than the thought of JRRT without his brain. Happy Halloween everybody! Notta

I don't need to provide answers since those are found easily by following the links. And everyone gave a witty answer of some sort - and I laughed at them all. (You guys are so clever at this sort of thing.) Here are the medallions for this hunt.
Happy Halloween everyone!
