Can you believe it!? Twenty years since the thrilling 76th Academy Awards and Peter Jackson's Return of the King 11-Oscars sweep! February 29, 2004's Oscars was given another surreal twist as it fell on a Leap Year... very appropriate... as it is now when we celebrate during another Leap Year on February 29, 2024! TORn's Oscar Party was the perfect way to celebrate not only the success of all 3 The Lord of the Rings films, but The One Ring.net's family and all that we've experienced together because of Peter Jackson's vision. What a time we live in! Here's the link to my original Oscar's Party post 3/4/2004

on the Radio New Zealand site today, talking to Tania Rodger and Daniel Falconer. The Oscar Party was too far away for me to attend, but Mr Kimi and I watched the Oscars here in Aotearoa New Zealand, on a big screen set up in the middle of Tamaki Makaurau (Auckland), surrounded by an enthusiastic crowd and with a very excited Callum Gittins, Philippa Boyens' son, in attendance. A treasured memory.

It was a great night to see Return get all those awards and have the actors, producers, PJ on stage together, really awesome feeling. Also want to give props to the only other films to match the magic 11 oscars. Ben Hur (MGM '59) won 11 of 12 Titanic (Paramount-Fox '97) won 11 of 14 These three films are on my personal greatest of all time list and I view them as worthy of every award they have ever gotten. and i will also honor West Side Story (United Artists '61) for its 10 of 11 wins. These films were about passion, danger, life, death, the eternal nature of love and compassion, adventure, honor, valor, loyalty, betrayal and commitment to seeing the mission through. Cannot say enough about their greatness, will let it speak for themselves. Hope generations in the future will always rediscover them and value them like we did.... I watched these Oscars at a dinner theater with the long expected party people. As return of the King one best picture we put on our paper crowns. A magic time.
