Without meaning to lead you into this OT matter, I am a conundrum to myself on this! I seem to get tech-related anxiety, so I sort of resist learning something new for leisure, even when it's going to make my use easier. Hence, I still haven't downloaded Firefox, yet I still gripe away about my browser not supporting the image icons for easier posting. Yet at work, I am pretty up to date with applications because I don't want to be left behind or be draining on anyone else. This seems to point out to me the clear rift between my RL work self, and my far more private online thralldom. We are almost two completely different people. So I guess even when contorting ourselves over stuff that's probably easy fixes, we're still enjoying the process? I mean, I still fall back to powerpoint for quickie image stuff, because it's fast and I know my way around it already... even though I know I'm not doing myself any long-term favours 
Given that this is thralldom we're talking about, I expect it may take some other sort of enchantment to release me from my bond to the Elven King. I'm in no hurry....  
It would be fascinating to do (or read) a thesis on fandom and public/private selves, and how it affects one's life. For instance, it's Saturday morning and I've simply been reading TORN since I got up - meanwhile there's housework to do, groceries to buy, and my running shoes are staring me down. But is this procrastination, or the worthiest of pastimes? (slow time for reflection is so hard to find these days)
I'm going off on a huge tangent here, and I think I'd better go for my run while it's still sunny LoL... don't i know what you mean I should get offline soon and get stuff done, though not a run in the sun, unless I fancy a heatstroke. Before I do, how about a bit of a primer in anticipation of your venture into the world of anime? Look up otaku and fujoshi
