The goodies stay public, some thoughts plus a little CHOW

Quote Oh, 1 question: Do you know when I post an image, clicking on it (usually) leads to the source image or source page where the image came from? Yes, I knew that and I click them on a regular basis. Oh goodies! I was just wondering since I forgot to indicate that sometimes.
Quote Another one: is anyone, besides Kerewyn, Eruvandi, vanima, even interested in these? Should I think about purveying them via PM to them instead? Even if no one else is interested, I don’t see why you should have to purvey these via PM. This is the Thranduil Appreciation Thread after all and these things are about Thranduil and for the general appreciation of him. Even if they’re about LP’s other roles, IMO, it still counts because LP is Thranduil and knowing more about his acting in general helps us to appreciate his approach to Thranduil even more! Ah good! Looking at the long list of stuff, I was suddenly thinking, "what the hell am I doing, spamming the thread, annoying others or maybe causing unlooked-for sensory overload" So it shall be. Until I hear violent objections
It’s interesting to watch where Thranduil is looking as he gives his dramatic monologue in this scene. He starts by looking at the orc, then off into the distance, then back at the orc, then slowly up at Legolas and watches him for a second, then glances to Tauriel before looking back at the orc and standing, arms crossed, behind it. It makes me wonder, first of all, how often do the elves of Mirkwood capture bad guys and do official interrogations? By “official interrogations,” I mean, prisoner with hands tied behind back, on his knees with knife to throat, feeling threatened, not just being questioned with no threat like what they did with the dwarves. The reason I ask, is that the whole thing with the orc feels like they (at least Thranduil and Legolas) have done this before, or at least really know what they’re doing. So, does Thranduil always give a speech before they interrogate someone? In this case, the things he was saying, plus the way we was looking around made it seem like he was doing it just as much to intimidate the orc as to make a point about the evils of the outside world with Legolas and Tauriel, IMO.
Strangely, I recall when I first got on the net looking for the vid and screencaps to it, I came across some weird comments/questions about why Thranduil was looking at Legolas, Tauriel, the orc etc etc. Maybe it was due to the lack of context when the commentators first saw it. But imo, the way this scene played out/was designed interesting. As you say, Eruvandi, it is a dramatic monologue. It serves the purpose of laying the groundwork of showing us Thranduil's thoughts and opinions on evil, and also the dangers the Realm faced continually. Bleak, portentous, and pessimistic, and "In time, all foul things come forth" gives that sense of inevitability (don't cue agent Elrond please ), and has accents of a unspoken promise of what happens to foul things that come forth, mess around in the Woodland Realm and land in the Elves' hands. The Elves probably didn't take prisoners as a matter of course. By that, I mean the nature of the foes they faced in their day-to-day didn't necessitate the need usually. Spiders? Kill on sight. Orcs? Kill on sight. Wargs? Kill on sight. Anything disagreeable and not obviously a member of the Free Peoples? Kill on sight. *sorry, couldn't resist a little nod to Toothless and Hiccup* Because, basically, their homeland security policy is simply (I may not be quoting it rightly) "keep our lands clear of those foul things", based on Thranduil's plan to just endure while the world went to hell and back essentially. Having said that, these are Elves after all, even rustic ones. So there must have occasion where they did take prisoners, just to gather intelligence in the name of homeland security if nothing else. So yes, Thranduil and Legolas would have done it before. Though I imagine it is not often that Thranduil took part himself - too majestic for the usual grunt to bear looking at, and a waste of his time just cos grunts who squeal at the first knife glint don't usually have intel worth his time or effort. But with this orc though, he was probably curious about anything they could find out about the orcs' pursuit, and maybe he wanted the practice. Or he may be doing trainer assessment on Legolas and Tauriel's interrogation skillz? The script did pick a great point to give us this soliloquy. Where else could Thranduil say it without it sounding like overwrought melodrama (not that the choices were many to begin with ), and it does segue well into the orc beheading, in lieu of a flashback to the Last Alliance and Thranduil's personal experience/outlook from the War plus serve as another reminder to Legolas and Tauriel about why they should . I wonder how much thought and planning did PJ and Thranduil, I mean LP, do in the blocking about how he should portray it. Where Thranduil looked as he spoke, and essentially prowled around his prey, felt very naturalistic and organic to me. (feels like we're doing a mini CHOW right here doesn't it?)
First of all, I love the funny face/flailing arms LP does in the gif of the reaction to the Happy Hobbit reaction! heheh... Thranduil having fun is a rare sight eh?
In the gif directly below that, I totally didn’t realize that was him hugging Jed Brophy. Is it just me or is it a little odd how, in several of the vlogs they cut so suddenly to a shot of LP that if you’re not paying attention, you barely realize it’s him? It’s like, dwarf, dwarf, dwarf, dwarf, elf!, dwarf, dwarf, dwarf. ikr?! When I first came across the tag, I did a double-take, went back to the vlog and yup... that's the same grey tee (I think) and hair LP had in the bottom right gif, plus look at the height and broad back... gotta be him. It's like let's play spot-the-elf-guy. Thanks to the eagle-eyed fans inhabiting tumblr.
Going down two gifs from there and then to the gif on the left, I totally didn’t realize that was OB doing elven movement training with LP. I recognized Terry Notary in the background, but for some reason I totally overlooked OB this whole time! Guess I got distracted by the fabulous and assumed he was another trainer or something. Sorry OB! me too. Apologies to OB
Bottom left gif. *giggles with glee* He looks so goooood when he wields a sword! *thud* You know, with his gunslinging turn in The Fall, and now cool swordwielding cred, it would be nice to see him in a cool movie franchise. Was thinking the Dark Tower just in terms of concept, but I've not read the thing yet and can't quite justify any role. Nothing else is coming to mind right now. Any thoughts?
Bottom right gif. Can we please get a Thrandy smile in BotFA, pleeeeeeeease? He has such a nice smile, and it’s not like it’s going to break his face to smile just once! He could smile at Bilbo because Bilbo makes everyone smile and feel an inexplicable urge to hug him. Yes please! That smirk in the Thorin questioning scene, while fabulous, doesn't quite count.
I’m looking at the fourth picture down. The one that’s bigger and longer than the others where Thranduil is sitting fabulously while looking right at the camera. Whenever my mom sees that one, she says Thranduil looks just like a little boy who’s pouting because his feelings got hurt! Lol! LOL he does look a little petulant there. Too ageless is the problem I think. Loved the gif though. That is one tumblr I've stuck on follow. It puts up Alan Lee and John Howe art a fair bit
Fan of both books and movies. Oh, and it seems I have severely misnamed myself... for the moment. Appreciating Thranduil, thread by thread: I, II, III, IV, V "BoFA"= The Battle || "BotFA"/"tBofTA" = The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies
