Gimli v. Dwalin

Gimli son of Gloin as during LOTR and Dwalin son of Fundin as during TH:AUJ. They are both warrior Dwarves, both renowned for their skill, experience, bravery, valor, and strength in battle and adventures. Both love getting into scrapes. Both are walking arsenals of axe-wielding death. Gimli is funny and chatty, competitive, has a weakness for certain tall blondes, but still kicka**. From LOTR, we are accustomed to Gimli as the archetypical Dwarf with an axe or four to grind. Dwalin is quiet, gruff, no-nonsense, nothing but kicka**... In AUJ he is the "tank" of Thorin's company. Who wins in an all-out fight?

Gimli is dangerous, but Dwalin is just the definition of a true Dwarf warrior in battle-mode...i.e. he's awesome!

Rather than just character descriptions ... I'd go for Gimli. Dwalin didn't really do anything spectacular in AUJ.

Gimli, he choices to use a realistic weapon. Dwalins hammer would be much to heavy and cumbersome to use in battle.

Although I would like Gimli to win or at least tie, from what I've seen from Dwalin so far, he seems to be the ultimate warrior Dwarf, more so than Gimli and that's saying a lot. Dwalin constantly exudes don't-mess-with-me, 24/7 no-nonsense, hardened warrior. He is larger, and seems stronger, tougher, and more fierce than any Dwarf we have seen. He lifted Thorin from the cliffside, single-handed. He took out I-don't-know-how-many Goblins during the escape. He was a beast during the Azanulzibar flashback. Gimli is an accomplished warrior Dwarf from what we have seen. I would like to think that if Gimli really puts himself into a fight, especially when he's in a fiesty and bloodthirsty mood, he can be just as tough and fierce as Dwalin. Even if he has a comic side, we have seen him accomplish great feats of slayage when the occasion called for it. He took out more Uruks than Legolas did during Helms Deep.* However, I imagine Dwalin would have performed at least equally well under those circumstances, if not better. It may be too early to say with certainty until we've seen the rest of the current trilogy. *(or did he? depending on whether you count all those Uruks who fell from the big ladder that Legolas caused to fall...maybe those don't count because they weren't confirmed kills....).

I think Gimli would win. This is because in the LOTR we see Gimli hold off of enemies single-handedly in his area. Although there are two more Hobbit films which I believe will show more fighting scenes I think Gimli would win.
