Why is Bilbo the same height as the dwarves here?

Yea, but as far as I have seen until now in the pictures, Bilbo appears besides de "minor" dwarves in most of them. Maybe the other ones will emphazise this difference in height. I mean Thorin and the other lead dwarves. But I would liked to see Bilbo shorter than the rest because for me that would worked better in making that sentiment of inferiority bigger.
I can not guarantee his safety - understood... Nor will I be responsible for his fate - Doh!

I would say thanks ... but it just means I'm going to be looking out for Gimli's ever changing height when I next watch the trilogy!

It's probably due to two reasons
[In reply to]
|
Can't Post
|

The first one being that most of the photos released lately, all seem to be from a 'behind-the-scenes' point of view rather than a screenshot from the actual film (hint: notice the tracking marks on the rocks where Thorin is seen looking back at ... wargs?). The second reason is that in that photo, the dwarves have a bigger stature than that of Bilbo's - thus marking some considerable difference between the two.

If you look at where their feet are, he is behind them. I remember seeing this scene in one of the production videos and they drag Bilbo back from the front and surround him. They don't need any special effects for this - in real life James Nesbitt is a lot taller than Martin Freeman.

In scenes between the dwarves and Bilbo they would be using their normal heights, with no need for green-screen or standing on boxes etc.

Do you think they'll digitally add O'Gorman's face?

I imagine it must be pretty obvious that it's not him when the movie hits cinemas, especially with 48fps.

When Townsend was replaced with Viggo. Perhaps they'll scrap this scene? They could put his face on digitally - if they're doing Saruman they can do him at the same time.

Should be that case as M.Freeman is the shorter actor unless he is going around with really thick fake feet on, lol. To me the heights of them seem fine and i think no one will even notice when they are all moving about on screen and our attention is on the story not relative heights of the characters :P

John Rhys-Davis is 6"1 whereas Elijah Wood is only 5"6. And I thought PJ et al said that they didn't have to use greenscreen with the hobbits and Gimli in the same shot, due to the height difference between the actors involved.

I love the dichotomy of the races of Middle-Earth, and just having the dwarves be (mostly) Bilbo's height would be a crying shame. They should be ducking in Bag End! In some pics it looks liek a good diversity in height, in some pics it doesn't. I hope all is rectified come the film premiere.
