The EE extras show that Peter needs to be 'reined in' every so often...

Like, say, the madness of his proposed cameo inside that basket in Laketown... The thing with Thrain's death is that he may have just told someone 'put an extra scream in there' and left it at that. Peter may not have heard the final EE sound mix...(you might think that would be impossible, but not necessarily so) Regardless, it's a jarring moment and, if there ever should be a future release, there's absolutely no doubt that it should be altered to a different scream (getting someone to record a new, original scream, as opposed to lazily using a library one, would literally take 5 minutes)

What we need is more actors like Sir Christopher Lee.

We need actors who know how to sound like they're being ripped apart by a Dark Vaporous Lord—because they've witnessed it. (I say this with the utmost reverence and respect for Sir Christopher Lee.)

Seriously. A disgusting decision. What a joke. The Wilhelm scream is so cartoonish and PJ, of all scenes, added it here and to THRAIN. That stupid sound is supposed to be Thrain. One of the most insulting and mood killing decisions of all films. It is sick. The decision is inexplicable. The sound effect needs to be retired anyway. It's not a funny little addition and artists' secret anymore. It's just overused and harsh on the ears. It's not cute. There is no "Hehe, that's the Wilhelm scream! I know that! A trade in-joke tradition. They sure are dedicated artists. So fun to recognize it! Thanks for that cartoon effect!" Retire it. I can't believe they put it in that single split second and with that character. Not some faceless guy falling in the background. Thrain. THRAIN! At death! Definitely needs some custom editing to fix it for anyone at home. Hours of editing other sounds to remove this one second so I can watch this without nausea for years to come. Awful joke.

It was a really powerful scene of Thrain expressing his love for his Son and suddenly I found myself bursting out laughing. Completely the opposite effect of what was intended...

PJ has to know what kind of effect this has for those who know about the "joke". It is beyond me how he can make such a decision. I am behind him most of the times... but he is making it very hard when it comes to such things.
"I am afraid it is only too likely to be true what you say about the critics and the public. I am dreading the publication for it will be impossible not to mind what is said. I have exposed my heart to be shot at." J.R.R. Tolkien We all have our hearts and minds one way or another invested in these books and movies. So we all mind and should show the necessary respect.

Is Thrain *really* dead? Isn't it all rather convenient and unnecessary for Thrain to be in Dol Guldur? What if Azog parades Thrain through the BO5A, and kills him in front of Thorin? Hmmm...

This is probably a little too dark for these films, but maybe we'll see his severed head at the battle? Or something less gruesome. Thorin has to find out somehow, right? Maybe Gandalf will break the news to him. I kinda hope so, this film is going to be hard enough to watch without that. It would be too cruel... ...right??
