Bilbo's real concern [In reply to] Can't Post

was more for the ponies (that's why he was trying to steal the knife from the troll, to free Myrtle and Minty and sweet little Sally) than the Dwarves.

" Well well!", said a voice. "Just look! Bilbo the hobbit on a pony, my dear! Isn't it delicious!"
"Most astonishing wonderful!"

I think [In reply to] Can't Post

I thought he said Myrtle and Mindy.

I love that the ponies had names, I wish they'd let them stick around longer. Daisy and Bongo(whom Kili said were missing), Myrtle and Mindy/Minty(whom Bilbo saw being carried off) and I guess it sounds like Sally too had already had quite an adventure being kidnapped by stone trolls, but at least they didn't get eaten by the Goblins. Can't handle that, hurt dogs or horses in a movie and I have a hard time with the rewatch factor. :)

I like Minty [In reply to] Can't Post

It made me think of after-dinner mints or mint sauce.

I think it was Mindy too Wink

Another thing... [In reply to] Can't Post

...I just noticed when....I uh just noticed it :) is that in the scene with the stone trolls, when they have Bilbo by the arms and the dwarves have to put down their arms. Kili looks really pissed off about it and throws his sword down angrily, Ori has been looking at him and so he sees what Kili does so then Ori gets an angry look on his face and throws his sling shot down angrily. :) It's cute.

... till the 3rd time you see it...

Bilbo rescuing his doily, doiley, thing with the holes in it, someone saying that it has holes in it... Bilbo announcing that "IT IS CROCHET!"

Bofur going: "Oh, that's a nice game..."

(and I heard this part only the thrid time I saw the film)..."if you got the balls for it..."

SlySlySlySlySlySlySlySlySlySlySlyHeartLaughLaughSly

I want the hat.

Caught it the first time. Still funny the 3rd time. Will still be funny in future viewings. Laugh

I giggle every time I see it. Tries to look so angry and threatening while throwing down a slingshot. Laugh

Speaking of the Troll scene, there's something I can't figure out. It's just after the Trolls have turned to stone and everyone is free. The main characters are in the foreground talking, and in the background there's something happening. There are two or three Dwarves doing something to Bifur. It looks like they're either pulling him out of the ground, or pulling his pants up. I can't tell! But afterwards they give a "job well done" nod. Has anyone else noticed this? If so, any ideas on what they're doing to him?

Pulling him out of the ground, or pulling his pants up! You know the explanation's gotta be good when you can't tell those two things apart. Smile

I'd noticed them doing something to Bifur there but hadn't seen it yet even that clearly. Will try to work it out tomorrow at viewing #5!

Seems reasonable [In reply to] Can't Post

They were all in the under-garments on the spit roast. Since Bifur is a bit vacant, it makes sense for the others to help it get dressed again.

Ori vs Warg [In reply to] Can't Post

I did notice some dwarves pulling pants on Bifur in the background year haha

And in the Frying Pan scene with the wargs. Ori running past Bilbo, hitting a warg over the head with a hammer.

Okay, that helps a lot! Thanks!

So, they mostly just lose their coats and capes. And, in the case of Bifur, their trousers. Wink I must say, it's quite a sight to see Bofur without the hat. He looks less Canadian. Shocked

Dwarven Underclothing [In reply to] Can't Post

I bought a book the other day called "The Hobbit, An Unexpected Journey, Chronicles, Art & Design" It is wonderful !!! There is a page in it that has a comment by Ann Maskrey, a costume designer. She describes designing the underwear, giving each a distinct look for each of the individual dwarves.

I recommend the book, by the way. It has wonderful drawings & sketches, showing various designs by different designers along with the finale picture of the characters, sest, weapons, etc., as we see them in the film.

bowing to Thorin [In reply to] Can't Post

Quote
Dwalin and two other dwarves (I think it was Ori and Oin but I could be remembering wrong) stand in the doorway to the right when Thorin enters Bag End; Oin and Ori bow their heads to him as he walks in, Dwalin doesn’t.

I don't think anyone has commented on this, Dwalin, Ori and Nori are standing by the door as Thorin enters Bag End. Dwalin does nod his head when Thorin steps in.....then Nori and Ori bow their heads.
