It's been confirmed on TORN! The end battle in the Hobbit will definitely rival the prologue in FOTR.

Isn't The Battle of Five Armies a smaller affair than the war of Sauron and the Last Alliance? Question: in the book, Tolkien deliberately leaves the battle in doubt, before it concludes, and has the story of its victory told to Bilbo after the fact. We never "see" Beorn turn the tide. Should the movie do the same? Why or why not? Bearing in mind that Tolkien could have presented the battle to its finish in "real" time, but chose not to. As you've probably noticed by now, this announcement seems to have been just a rumor (and I don't think it was ever "confirmed" on TORN). Interesting nickname. Is it a variant on "squire" or "squirrel"?

I met him between the Nantahala River and Fontana Dam in North Carolina, in April 2000. Not his real name, of course (never learned that). I don't remember him being a Tolkien fan.
