Ah, you know it's gotta be the rich gold and sparkling blue eyes! [In reply to] Can't Post

For sure, the lively and vibrant and thud-worthy attractive Kili has the smoulder thing going on at needTongue, and has that lovely tousled silky mop. And we can assume here's a dwarf it'd be real nice to spend some time with.Wink But.

At the moment anyway, for me it's gotta be the yummy thick tousled golden waves of his older brother, so decadent (like butterscotch). Even in a dark cell, Fili just glows like TREASURE, with sapphire eyes TongueTongueTongue. (Thud, thud, thud...I swear there are times in these movies it could drive you mad, trying to decide whose HAIR to focus on. I think if Fili's hair were just a bit longer Thorin would have some serious competition - as it is Fili's hair is such a great complement when Thorin and Fili are in the same frame *drool*Wink)

Seeing Fili, I'd like to ask Tauriel why she focused on Kili - I mean I understand the QUANDARY and while Thorin is undeniably insanely beautiful and #majestic that's reaching pretty high (still, myself, I might have gone for itShocked if I could have gotten the keys....). But I am not sure I get why she wouldn't have drifted over to Fili's cell, too. Just out of mild interest Wink.

Fortunately in these movies no-on has to choose, really - we've got two brothers who love each other and happily are often in the same scenes together. (And for me, more Fili love - in that he plays around, but we see him taking the lead and being responsible - holding his brother, telling Bard to go, even arguing with Thorin. A king to be indeed - sigh - just wish there had been more Thorin/FiliHeartHeartHeart interaction, just a bit....Frown)

Yes, Deviant Art if you can overlook the more *cough* questionable postings is a true treasure trove!. And I faithfully check the Thorin FB site and the Heirs of Durin site.

Another big favorite I check a LOT is the Spanish language Thorin Escudo de Roble FB site - there's several of these by this name, but this particular one seems to be the best AND it's not just Thorin - it's pretty free-wheeling, fast moving, and it's all kinds of Hobbit stuff.
WARNING - it's not usually too graphic or too grim, but time to time it's a bit more "loose" than some other sitesShockedEvilAngelic. But overall has been an excellent source - check it out - lots about the Heirs of Durin and the actors HeartHeartHeartHeart Me gusto mucho!!!

https://es-es.facebook.com/...club/158289554328372

And lately besides Pinterest and Google, I've started checking Bing time to time - sometimes this engine just seems to be able to ferret stuff out. It's tough finding things people have not seen already.Unsure

PS. I need to give a shout-out to the HAIRIEST eagerly awaited hero of BOFA! HeartCool

Thorin's hair is INSANE [In reply to] Can't Post

As so many artists, happily, have lovingly depicted.....

But will differ with you on the beard - not all can wear a beard, it's true, but just love Thorin's beard, and love Richard Armitage in a beard....HeartHeartHeart. Love beards if you have the face for it. And IMO Fili and Thorin look amazing HeartHeartHeart

Tho between the HAIR and those stunning eyes (and all the other attributes that RA has brought to these movies) I seriously worry about how long the "replay" buttons on my remote are going to last.CoolCoolCool

Strange, I did not mean to say all men can wear beards, because I see more who shouldn't these days than those who can. >>>

Spot on with not all men can wear beards Avandel. I've been a beardo kind of gal for 20 some odd years and the trend now makes me laugh - since so many who try just do not look good. Thorin not having a proper dwarf beard still makes me a mite bit sad, but I console myself with the concept art. I prefer Richard with a beard myself, although I am sure that is product of enjoying his portrayal of Thorin (I tend to get stuck on characters rather than the actors who play 'em.)

And one thing I've noticed when a man can rock a beard it makes his eyes stand out even more - true for Mr. Armitage :)

But I digress...

yeah, that's a beautiful piece of fan art. Insane hair indeed, I wouldn't mind sporting a mane like that (well not the hairline) but the rest of those lovely locks. Ironically, when I did cosplay I looked better as a Thranduil bleach blonde Ha ha (figures.)

Your remote is meant to serve and if it sacrifices the rewind button in the throws of your fannish glee, well, it was a loyal and just remote, give it a viking funeral.

But then again, that's been more or less true since clicking that link to view my first image of PJ's ThorinHeartHeartHeartHeart...

I've grown to like this Thorin because of Richard's stellar perf and a younger Thorin is fine by me (and he is fine), I suppose I wasn't so literary as much as thinking traditional dwarf = long honking beard Tongue

Same here (black wig... jaundiced...)

Okay, I shall go look at DA for more Thorin. It's been a while and I think Tolkien fandom creates some of the most magnificent art and replica costumes I've ever seen. The image you posted compels me...

I think Nori should get an honorable mention for those. Nobody seems to have mentioned his elaborate hairstyle yet, so the poor guy should get some credit somewhere.

As for beards, I think Dori takes the cake. Wonder how long it takes him to do his hair... Other favorites of one include Bombur's beard braid and Fili's mustache (of course Tongue).

Kili of course is ABSOLUTELY thud/drool worthyHeartHeartHeart, LOL in the Appendices all the comments about his beauty (well, we know life isn't fair....Cool). As far as hair goes, Kili has that marvelous silky, lightly waved tumble and let us emphasize, with enough thick volume (a quality so often lacking in the LOTR characters) that he has that intriguing clip in the back, while the rest of the soft golden cocoa tumbles about a handsome faceTongueTongueTongue:

Not to mention, brilliant dark amber eyes that are vibrant with fun and emotion - and also as required have that Durin smoulderTongue going on (no wonder Legolas was worried, LOLWink)

Such a perfect complement to his handsome golden brother!

I ask the universe, how can we reasonably take sides?

All I know, without the FIRE of the Heirs of Durin these movies would be sadly HOLLOW as this point, for canon or not, the "Durins" have brought such richness (and glorious hirsuteness!) that even now, when I watch LOTR, I find myself missing the dwarves - even with Gimli Frown

I had been so hoping we saw that warg chase scene with Fili and Thorin in the AUJ EE - no *sad*. But crossing my fingers for the DOS EE - more time with the Durins (including the #Majestic uncleTongueTongueTongue). And BTW, considering that dwarf hair seems to get THICKER as they get older, most of the time, we can expect that both Fili and Kili in time will have SAVAGE locks like Thorin, too.Cool

Oh, I do think about the Durins, often *grins* [In reply to] Can't Post

Let's see - if RA had let his hair grow out for the part, it seems he would have had hair like Fili, naturally, from the pictures I have seen. And if Aidan Turner had let his hair grow way out it would kind of be like Thorin's from the looks of it, except they would have to tame the curl down I think....yep, you're right, given time Dean is probably the only one who could have gone natural.

On the other hand, ALL these three seem to be able to grow *sexy* beards at need, which is definitely a useful capability and has been posted, on the right face really highlights the eyes. HeartHeartHeart

But let's face it, they could shave these three bald for some sci-fi film or whatever, and they still would have the *it* factorHeartHeartHeart. In the meantime, I personally am so happy that Rob K. was replaced, because I just love Dean (so intelligent and multi-talented!) and flat out think he is better looking.Tongue

Looking at these images - I think, that's IT. I DEMAND an immediate re-shoot of these films, with the same cast and lots and lots more DWARF time. Including mundane scenes like dwarf hair braiding.Cool Because there is no such thing as too much of the Heirs of Durin.HeartTongueCool

For all the Thorin fans... [In reply to] Can't Post

I do realize that I have been littering this thread with my posts, so I will try to step back after this post.

Anyways, since I'm not technologically gifted, I can't post pictures, yet (must find time to learn), and Avandel seems to have that base covered. ;) So my contribution's a little different: it's a poem. (I can hear the snickering already...) Warning: this was written in my head at six in the morning, so it may be awful.

So for every self-proclaimed Thorin fan on these boards, and those that "linger in the shadows," too, I give you an ode to Thorin's hair. (I'm regretting this already...)

Here goes:

The lord of silver highlights,*
The king of midnight locks,
The king with wondrous hair,
Shall come into his own.

The thralls shall sing in gladness
At the mountain king's #majestic 'do.
But all shall fall to sadness,
And the fans' eyes shall shine and burn.

*Yes, highlights. Not grey streaks of age. Perish the thought!

If you haven't already realized, it's Bard's poem modified. It's been a while since I've seen that part of the movie, so it may be a little off. It doesn't rhyme in all the right places like the original, but it was the best I could do.

How was it? Terrible? Mediocre? Or dare I say it?...Good?

Posting this before I have second thoughts...

Shampoo is a fairly recent invention [In reply to] Can't Post

Ironically - at least in the States - it's often discussed among hair care experts that we shampoo too much at this point, stripping our hair of its natural oils, and there is a big movement to shampoo less. Thus we see all these "nutritive oils" on the market tho the reality is that a jar of organic cocoa butter is far more effective (and you can also make popcorn and cook with it).

Also, one could consider the 1960s-70s as embracing freedoms along with massive societal change, while the later 1980s and onward conservatism was embraced by a fearful populace, which was longing for the supposed stability of the 1950s e.g. = short boring hair.Frown

Fortunately the Hobbit movies IMO have been an absolute nirvana for those who have long suffered from ennui at the more recent male hair fashions, longing for the bygone eras of manly, earthy, swirling manes that coil sensuously about the sweat-sheened, muscular necks and shoulders of our blade-wielding heroes. I can only marvel that it is a man, Sir Peter Jackson, who so ASTUTELY registered the desert of hirsuteness of modern life, and set out to create an oasis of sorts in cinema, the like of which had not been seen since Daniel Day-Lewis burst onto the scene in Last of the Mohicans (tho I will concede that the trinket-festooned locks of Jack Sparrow were incredibly soothing. But that just proves my point, the world wanted MORE HAIR.)

Tragically, as this chapter of Middle Earth comes to a close, I see no other hope in the future for a global Shangri-La of hirsuteness. Frown

But perhaps it is for the best, in that IMO our Mountain King pretty much torpedoed any future film character of having a decadent mane that is even remotely comparable. There can be only one, but I must take joy in that I was here to EXPERIENCE the glory of it.Wink *SQUUUEEE*!

And such profound truth in this literary effort! And yet, as our heroes become legend - dare I say as gods? so too will their legendary locks of espresso and gold - none such as these shimmering manes will ever grace our screens again *sob*.
