Good news, fingers crossed, for the re-opening of Inklings haunt, the Eage & child pub! The site has been purchased by Ellison Institute of Technology, who have said they plan to refurbish and re-open it. I had a beer there a few years ago and it was certainly a lovely pub back then.

I hope they don't refurbish it so much that it looses its charm and authenticity. How very cool that they've committed to saving this treasure :D Thanks for the heads-up!

is that they plan to let it remain a pub, and not be turned into a hotel or other business.

I was in Oxford in July and saw the shuttered pub....I have been there twice before and one time had the whole Rabbit Room to myself!! As long as they preserve that room where the Inklings met and the small bar next to it I will be ok with any restorations. I heard it needs a lot of work!! I asked the bartender at the Lamb and Flag across the street for news, they reopened after a non profit made plumbing repairs, but he said Eagle and Child needs way more work, that there is major structural damage that needs fixing which is why the college could not find a partner to reopen it. There was talk of making it a hotel, another restaurant, just keep the bar and Rabbit Room please!!!
