I'm listening to JRR Tolkien reciting his own poetryhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Tl_C_rWd0o&ab_channel=JacobLudwigand the thought occurred to me, that Mewlips is most likely the report of an unsuccessful visit to the Bursar to ask for a raise, put in the fantasy idiom he had become widely known for.
