"Maglor solo intensifies." Can't Post

I wish he'd replaced the karaoke chorus with his new lyrics -- and as often happens, "Middle-earth" is misspelled -- but the verses are fun. Pronunciations pretty good too:

We Didn't Start the Fire: The Silmarillion Edition

(That's a Youtube link. Click with caution. I generally don't post links here for fear of accidentally connecting to dangerously off-topic material, but I think Youtube is like Lothlórien: you carry the danger with you -- or say that like Galadriel's mirror, the site will suggest options to you based on your browser history. That said, please delete if necessary, admins.)

There have been a couple curious prior references on TORN to that Billy Joel song in the context of Middle-earth.

Glory to the heroes.

Very witty and fun - if you're a Tolkien geek, first class. [In reply to] Can't Post

I enjoyed it, especially the incredible research into images for all the Silmarillion moments and heroes.

But it also made me think about how incredibly hard it remains to dramatize The Silmarillion into a viable narrative on film or video. The book is simply too tight - every page has a dozen new names, references, and inconsequential episodes. After a few pages ones eyes glaze over -- or one starts taking notes like a grad student doing source research.

Neither 'eyes glaze over' nor 'grad student taking notes' are terms that your average TV or film producer wants to have associated with a popular media project, I guess.

Thanks for finding and sharing this, N.E.B.!

That is incredible! [In reply to] Can't Post

And love the variety of artwork he's used for it! Although different art for each chorus would have been nice, still, it's a genius way of putting the story together.

Thanks for finding and posting it!
