Bruce Hopkins (Gamling) flips-out for charity Can't Post

Just a bit of news about a LOTR alum:

Having marked his 67th birthday with 67 backflips into the ocean last year, actor Bruce Hopkins had his heart on doing one better to celebrate the 68th year of his life.

Continuing with his philanthropic somersaults, the Lord of the Ring star spent around 2 hours successfully completing his 68 leaps into the Waitemata Harbour off the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series tower on Tuesday afternoon.

I doubt that anyone who met Bruce at the Return of the One Party (and got a hug from him on the way out of the venue while being shooed along by security) will be surprised at his efforts to mark his birthday and raise a bit of dosh for charity.

Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..."
Dwarves: "Pretty rings..."
Men: "Pretty rings..."
Sauron: "Mine's better."

"Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded beggar with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak.

He's truly amazing! [In reply to] Can't Post

Wow! He's so devoted to this when you think of how much time and effort he dedicates to these goals! This isn't a fleeting impulse of "I think I'll do this or that today." His focus and devotion to this is so admirable. Truly one of my heroes... that's another gift these films have given to me/us.

Yeah.... I was one of those very fortunate people that met him at that moment you describe as we were leaving the Return of the One Party celebrating the Oscars. He was thanking as many of us as he could while we were herded out of the building. When I walked up, there was a group standing around him and an attractive young lady (quite inebriated) doing her best to tempt him away as he smiled and tried to graciously, tactfully, respectfully say I can't, No thank you ("NO WAY!") while a bunch of us were waiting to say thanks and goodbye. Relentless...she was like, "What can I say ?" And I piped up... "You can try sharing!" He looked over at me smiling broadly and gave me a hug when a nearby sibbie caught this shot. He would make as many of our gatherings as he could... which you could tell he truly enjoyed.

Thank you for this, Ataahua :) Stories of our Gamling always makes my day!
