Bilbo's Brainteasers! (a quiz) Can't Post

Hello everyone! Bilbo has decided to reprise a different game this week – one that we haven’t played lately! Admittedly, he was inspired by the warming trend in the weather (finally!!) and a delivery of a keg or two of some nice cold 1420 from the Shire. I must say, it *does* provide inspiration. Wink

In this week’s game, the last few letters in each answer will be the first letters in the next answer. The number of letters that flow from one answer to the next is indicated in parentheses. (Hint: if you get stuck, skip to the next answer you know, and work backwards). Each question is worth 3 points for a total of 30 points.

Good luck! Smile

Example:
  1. Glorfindel’s steed _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ (last 4 letters) Answer: Asfa loth
  2. Home of Galadriel _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Answer: Loth lorien

Questions

1. Dark Lord _ _ _ _ _ _ (last 2 letters)

2. Ents (to Elves) _ _ _ _ _ _ _ (last 2 letters)

3. Hidden valley _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ (last2 letters)

4. Of these, there were five _ _ _ _ _ _ (last 2 letters)

5. Bilbo was one (hyphenated word) _ _ _ _ - _ _ _ _ _ _ (last 2 letters)

6. Master of the Westfold _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ (last 5 letters)

7. A River in the Shire _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ (last 2 letters)

8. Same Dark Lord _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ (last 3 letters)

9. Lothlorien hill (two words) _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ (last 2 letters)

10. Orcrists owner _ _ _ _ _ _.

Bilbo's Brainteasers! (answers & scores from last week) [In reply to] Can't Post

Kudos and congratulations to all who braved the first Brainteaser on the new boards! And, here’s a hearty, hobbity welcome too to some new players of the game: Radhurin (who said it was his first), and (guessing) Trixie Hobbit, Moriel and anyone else who decided to exercise their brains for the first time (so to speak Wink)!

Everyone did exceptionally well on the quiz. A big “LOL” on questions number 7 which separated the true Boromir fans among us (who answered “Son of Gondor”) from the Frodo fans (who gave the correct answer of “Son of Drogo”).

And, as usual, hysterical answers were given by Finding Frodo, Ataahua, Penthe, linkin-artelf, River Woman and Aerlinn! Bilbo is very proud. Apparently, this quiz really inspired the imagination, or....

...Okay – who broke into the 100 year old miruvor??! Shocked

Have a great week, all!

Warm weather and chilled 1420 [In reply to] Can't Post

A most relaxing combination - and it causes Bilbo to make easy quizzes!

1. Dark Lord: Sauron
2. Ents (to Elves): Onodrim
3. Hidden valley: Imladris
4. Of these, there were five: Istari
5. Bilbo was one: Ring - bearer
6. Master of the Westfold: Erkenbrand
7. A River in the Shire: Brandywine
8. Same Dark Lord: Necromancer
9. Lothlorien hill (two words): Cerin Amroth
10. Orcrists owner: Thorin

Now, if you wouldn't mind asking the West Wind to blow some of that warm weather thisaway, I've an icy driveway what needs meltin' Wink. Thank you, Bilbo and Altaira, may your Shire brew never go flat!

Blessedly cool nights, but a 1420 still welcome [In reply to] Can't Post

The weather is starting to cool down for autumn, thankfully.

    1. Dark Lord _ _ _ _ _ _ (last 2 letters)
    SAURON

    2. Ents (to Elves) _ _ _ _ _ _ _ (last 2 letters) ONODRIM

    3. Hidden valley _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ (last2 letters) IMLADRIS (tricky, my brain really wanted to say Rimendell, which sounds like something from Red Dwarf)

    4. Of these, there were five _ _ _ _ _ _ (last 2 letters) ISTARI

    5. Bilbo was one (hyphenated word) _ _ _ _ - _ _ _ _ _ _ (last 2 letters) RING BEARER

    6. Master of the Westfold _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ (last 5 letters) ERKENBRAND

    7. A River in the Shire _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ (last 2 letters) BRANDYWINE

    9. Lothlorien hill (two words) _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ (last 2 letters) ERED I KNOW NOTTETH

    10. Orcrists owner _ _ _ _ _ _. THEODE

Ah, I think I made an error somewhere in nos. 8-10. Maybe?

EDIT what a pickle brain. Theoden my dwarven patootie. I was imaging a short grumpy guy with a beard, not a tall-ish noble guy with a beard. Brain has been exposed to too many short stories by undergraduates who spend their time watching Dr Phil instead of reading great works of literature. How many stories about disastrous marriages can I read? Especially since they are written by 17 and 18 year olds startlingly bear of wedding rings.

I may never recover...at least not without substantial doses of 1420 and strawberries and cream.

Bilbo just officially had a "Penthe" nameplate affixed to one of our premier casks of 1420 and is sending the Hobbit lads and lasses out for a basket of strawberries and some fresh cream. No one should have to edure such torture. WinkLaugh

Darn. [In reply to] Can't Post

One Ring to bring them all and remind them all to feed them
In the land of Kitchen where the litter lies.
