Scenes From The Hat

Thanks to L. Ron Halfelven for today's Scene From The Hat: In the spirit of the Sermon on the Mount scene from Life of Brian, consider Theoden's great speech on the Pelennor Fields:
Forth and fear no darkness! Arise! Arise riders of Theoden. Spears shall be shaken, shields shall be splintered, a sword day, a red day ere the sun rises! Ride now, ride now! Ride! Ride for ruin and the world's ending! DEATH! DEATH! Of course WE get to hear it perfectly, but what about the poor Riders in the last row, straining to listen over the sound of six thousand stamping and snorting horses? What are some of the inspiring things they thought their King was telling them?
****************************************** The audacious proposal stirred his heart. And the stirring became a song, and it mingled with the songs of Gil-galad and Celebrian, and with those of Feanor and Fingon. The song-weaving created a larger song, and then another, until suddenly it was as if a long forgotten memory woke and for one breathtaking moment the Music of the Ainur revealed itself in all glory. He opened his lips to sing and share this song. Then he realized that the others would not understand. Not even Mithrandir given his current state of mind. So he smiled and simply said "A diversion.”

chips shall be splendid, a slider day, a wings day ere the pub closes! Ride now, ride now! Ride! Ride for brewing and uh We're Spending! Best! Best!" "Sounds like an awesome pub, mates, let's follow our King, he's buying!" (it's a joy to read your voice again, Darkstone, you have been missed! )

Not sure I can top, or come anywhere near yours! (But I'm going to give it a try anyway . . . later).

Happiness: money matters, but less than we think and not in the way that we think. Family is important and so are friends, while envy is toxic -- and so is excessive thinking. Beaches are optional. Trust is not. Neither is gratitude. - The Geography of Bliss by Eric Weiner as summarized by Lily Fairbairn. And a bit of the Hobbit reading thrown in never hurts. - NottaSackville

Great to see you here again! Forlorn I fear the darkness! Alas! Alas riders of Theoden. Our spears are taken, our shield have withered, throw your sword away, far away before the sun rises! Hide now, hide now! Hide before the ruin of the world's ending! DEATH! DEATH!

It's great to see you, Darkstone! This is so fun :D Haven't had one for quite a while. But once you see my attempt... you'll p'raps see why ;) Theoden is trying to encourage his riders with a rousing speech: Arise! Arise Riders of Theoden. Spears shall be shaken, shields shall be splintered, a sword day, a red day ere the sun rises! Ride now, ride now! Ride for ruin and the world's ending! DEATH! DEATH! But because of the noise of horses and distance from their King, this is what they heard: All Right! ALL RIGHT! Riders are on again! See all be wakened and meals shall be tindered… horses hayed… ready ere the sun rises to Ride now! RIGHT NOW! Ride for noon and the grilled dining!!!!!! … what? Are you deaf!? DEAF!?!
