What to Read Prior to the TV Show Can't Post

If there's already a thread for this, I apologize for missing it. But I have just about every Tolkien book including the HoME. I was hoping folks here could tell me which ones to read or re-read before the Amazon show comes out.

Thanks!

Depends on what you want to achieve? [In reply to] Can't Post

By reading or re-reading?

Perhaps since we know the show will include Numenor sometime in the Second Age, rather than reading a book, read such chapters from different book that tell about that age.

Would include things like

The Downfall of Numenor (Silmarillion)
Description of Numenor (Unfinished Tales)
Aldarion and Erendis (Unfinished Tales)
A lot of the Galadriel stuff from Unfinished Tales (Unfinished Tales)
Tale of years (RotK)
History of Gondor and Arnor (Especially the early history) (Appendix A RotK)
Durins Folk (Appendix A RotK)

I'm sure there's more

If this series does Aldarion and Erendis [In reply to] Can't Post

And in any way faithfully I think I will eat my copy of Lotr!Smile
Volume 1 that is.
And my old version,
With Ketchup,
But as they won't those last three lines won't apply!

No I don't think the show will do Aldarion and Erendis [In reply to] Can't Post

But reading that story does provide a bit of an insight on the early culture of the Numenoreans, which should perhaps be part of the Faithful group, so to compare with what the show does.

But then I don't know what Archestratie wants to achieve. Certainly I don't think there will be any literary original to the story told by the Amazon show, unless it is in cliff notes and tale of years style key events.

This is a great list. I appreciate you putting that together for me. There's no way to know for sure what the show will fully entail, but I wanted a place to start. This is fantastic. :)
