Our lovely Altaira will return soon; but in the meanwhile, it's my delightful honour to celebrate another Fiesta and quench your thirst. I'm a bit on the run today, but I promise to fill your order asap! So what sounds good to you today for sipping on whilst you share how your week has been and what your plans are for the weekend? T'is the season of many hectic days, so I hope you have opportunities to just sit back and relax... and maybe have a wee-little LotR marathon to celebrate this month's 20th Anniversary of the release of FotR!! WOW! Twenty Years, guys! :o What a ride!!! Have a wonderful weekend, everyone! *lines up glasses on the bar*

I'll just have a hot chocolate, with a splash of Bailey's, please! It's a bright but chilly day here in New England. My eldest came out for Thanksgiving, and to have a LotR marathon with us - EEs, of course! We debated doing it one-day, but ended up doing it three nights. This weekend will be wrapping and packing and sending presents to family - and getting the tree and decorations out and putting them up! Plus getting a wreath for the front door. It's funny, when we hang a wreath we often find small birds suddenly flitting out of it when we open that door. There's a roof over our front porch, making it a sheltered area, so the birds must enjoy warming up a bit in the greenery. Got your decorations up yet, gramma?

which I'm happy to do. Don't hate me, but all my Christmas shopping is done - I like to go into December knowing that I can avoid the rush that inevitably builds as Christmas Day gets nearer. It's been well-humid the past couple of weeks, and much warmer than normal. November was our warmest month ever (since records began in 1909). I've got to say I'm not complaining, but I do wonder what our summer will look like in the later months. Anyway, have a lovely weekend, everyone! And gramma, if you have a cold jug of iced margarita handy, I could find a welcoming home for it.

A great warmer-upper! Lookit you getting your Christmas on! Good for you. The closest I've gotten to decorating is thinking about it ;) I'm really good at that! Until I forget about it again. *sigh* But I do have some easy-to-plant yard decorations from my Mom's collection and my friend/co-worker who passed away shortly after Mom... so they're with me every year :D I'll try and get lights up around the window; but the wreath won't be as elaborate as the one I made last year. I LOVE the image of birds flying out of your wreath :D What a treat! What kind of birds are they? Those little wren? I hope you have a wonderful weekend!!

I'll do a Gandalf and say, 'Just tea thank you,' tonight - off to bed soon, after a busy day. It was the Junior School Christmas Fair after school today, which my daughter was helping to organise. I looked after the dog for the afternoon, then served pizza to two hyped-up, sugar-overloaded boys after the fair, while Mummy had a cup of tea and a quiet sit down afterwards! Son-in-law was offshore today visiting the wind farm for which he works on a maintenance trip, so wouldn't be home until the boys were in bed. On Sunday our knitting group has the chance to sell some hand-knitted festive fripperies as well as useful stuff like woolly hats and blankets (in aid of the local Foodbank) at a local fair; snag is, there are a couple of other fairs on as well in the general area, so we'll just have to see who comes in through the door! What we don't sell will be handed on to various worthy causes anyway. Have a good weekend, people - and remember (if you're in the northern hemisphere, anyway) if the darkness is getting you down, in less than three weeks we can look forward to lightening nights and the promise of spring. Cheers, All!

I don't have a jug, but I do have TWO icy-cold ones for ya :D I think taking some time off on a so-so weather day is a great idea. It's a good thing you've had your e-bike handy to glide through those hot days. 1909!? Wow! I'm SO impressed with you having all your Christmas shopping done :D A very wise sibbie, art thou! I'm pretty-much done. We all spent so much this past year on moving, graduations, surgeries, etc. that we agreed having a simple Christmas this year is our gift to each other ;) I hope you have a wonderful weekend!!!

Yesterday saw many of our Covid-related restrictions relaxed, and the Mr and I made a pleasant day of it. Out to our favourite cafe for breakfast, then on to the cinema (where they cheerfully told us we were their very first customers since August!) for "Dune". It all felt very safe: cafe and cinema both require a vaccine pass, at the cafe we ate outdoors (a lovely, sunny day, but with ample shade), and mask wearing is required until you're seated at your table. The cinema makes sure there are empty seats between groups, too. Thoroughly enjoyed the movie--rather more than I'd expected to, to be honest. We spent much of the rest of the day talking about it. Being without such things for the last few months makes us appreciate them all the more. Fingers firmly crossed that we can keep this outbreak under control. Today is cloudy and much cooler, but we got a good lot of gardening done first thing. Lots more strawberries ready today, and a nice lot of raspberries (my mouth is watering at the thought). We have our tree up and decorated, so the lounge is looking cheerful! Edited to add: forgot to say that I had another follow-up appointment with the orthopaedic surgeon, and he said the bones have healed beautifully, which was great to hear. I may need a relatively minor operation next year to remove one of the pieces of hardware, which is causing a bit of irritation, but for now I'm *finished* with the hospital. Physiotherapy will continue for a bit longer, just to increase range of motion, but I can have that fairly locally rather than trekking to Big City Hospital. Wishing everyone a pleasant weekend.

Wonderful to get that excellent report on your wrist! I'm glad you got to see Dune on the big screen. I haven't been to a cinema yet, but I've been told by many that that's the best way to see it! Strawberries and raspberries already? Is that early for you? Ours are usually not ready to pick until right after the start of summer.

I put lights up in the front window so that people can see them, although with proper darkness not here until about 9.30pm it's a small window of opportunity for the lights to 'shine'. (I gave up on Christmas trees years ago as I'm the only one here, and there didn't seem much point to it.) We usually have Pukekura Park lit up for the Festival of Lights from mid-December to early Feb but Covid has killed it this season, which utterly sucks. We've had Christmas lights in the park for generations so its cancellation was a bit of a body-blow for locals. As for the flora, I can confirm that the weeds are going gangbusters in the warmth and wet! It's going to take a bit of work to get them taken out. Again. (Weeding is such a thankless task: wait a week or two and you have to do it aaall over again.)

I found the background music was way too loud - often muffling the dialogue - but I don't know if that was an artistic choice by Villeneuve or if my cinema doesn't have the sound balance right.

How about some raspberry iced tea for Mr Kimi and you to celebrate! I'm so happy you had a great report from the doctor. You've worked hard on your therapy and healing, so it's nice to know you've been on the right track. What an awesome outing :D You saw Dune? You liked it!? I saw it 3 times (along with 6 others in the whole room). It blew me away. Part 2 is going to have a lot more action to it, but I love how they took time for linger on the incredible locations and the characters. Not rushed but full of beauty... including the music. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

I'm quite sensitive to over-loud music, so I'd certainly have noticed that. It's a nice little local cinema (one big theatre, one medium, one tiny), the sort where we're recognised when we arrive. We had a nice chat about "Dune" with the manager (I think he might actually be the owner) before going in. He takes his movie watching seriously, and I'm sure would be fussy about the sound balance.

Yes, I really was impressed, as was Mr Kimi, who's been a "Dune" fan for a *very* long time (pre-dates LOTR for him). Visually, the music, the casting, and the amazing job of making a coherent script out of that vast tale, keeping what felt like all the vital elements and not shoe-horning in extraneous ones, and with minimal (but sufficient) exposition.

I think I'll just sit and finish my nice cold Jack and Ginger, thanks. This week is over, thank the gods. With the new CDC recommendations for boosters and pediatric patients, we're hopping at work. And I'm not very good at hopping right now. My PT guy said I shouldn't be working more than 6 hours and I should be able to sit down at least a couple times. That didn't work out. I sat down once each day and I was there almost 8 hours 3 of the 4 days. So I'm sitting here with ice in my drink and ice on my knee! I spent the evenings watching musicals. I've watched Tick Tick Boom at least 4 times looking for different clues to how they crafted the story and music. It's thrilling to watch a movie and see something so stunning and then something else that was the image in my head. It blows my mind. It drives my kids and hubby nuts that I watching things over and over and pick them apart trying to figure out "why". I'll be moving my desk, books and files up to what was my son's bedroom. Now that he's married (!?!?) I'll be able to move off the couch in the living room and into my own space. I'm looking forward to getting set up. I've got a number of projects that will go better if I have space to spread out and work. Let's see... up next... West Side Story. I'm 58 years old and I still want to be RIta Moreno when I grow up.

And your son doesn't mind you moving around anything he's left in his "old room"? Or did he manage to take it all with him? My bedroom became my dad's office...they made me take my furniture as soon as I could. How is that knee feeling? That's an awful lot that it got put through! Do you have any adults coming through for initial shots anymore, is it all boosters and kids now? I've never seen Tick Tick Boom, I've heard it's excellent. And didn't someone just do a remake of West Side Story? Yes, Rita Moreno is phenomenal!

Here are some cookies to go with your drink ;) Doesn't it figure work would get so busy? It's good stuff that's going on; but staying off your feet is impossible. How great that you're getting your own space for YOU! It figures (again) that it's upstairs (ow! ow! ow!); but it'll be so nice to spread out and not have to pick all your stuff up all the time. :D I hope you have a restful weekend (sans stairs ;) and that your booboo can take a rest. I hope there's some hot chocolate left - and Bailey's! Not much planned here, except an outing to a local botanical garden where they string lights to look like plants and animals. This year, because of COVID, we had to make reservations - which means it won't be the usual crowded craziness! Otherwise I will stay home and do my physical therapy exercises. At three weeks out I have dispensed with the sling and am able to dress myself in my regular clothes. I'm amazed at how quickly things are progressing. The worst thing now is that the incision itches like anything! Icing helps that fortunately.
