I know why it was inserted but it really is not justified.

Was killing Grima necessary within the movieverse? He stabbed Saruman but killing Grima was not going to prevent that after the fact.

Hmmm... [In reply to] Can't Post

Didn't Gandalf say (paraphrasing here) "We need him alive" when talking about Saruman upon arrival...? Grima trying to kill him midway through a conversation when they were trying to get information from him was not helpful...

If Gandalf was speaking of Saruman and Legolas shot Grima, I"m not sure what is your point?

Upon reflection, I was over-thinking your post. Apologies!

In the book... [In reply to] Can't Post

... Hobbit archers shot Grima after he killed Saruman, so it was just echoing his book death.

'I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.'
'So do all who live to see such times but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.'

It was a justified, but not really necessary. [In reply to] Can't Post

They wanted Saruman alive and a stabbing is not necessarily fatal. So I assumed it was to prevent Grima from continuing his attack in the event Saruman could have survived.

Was it necessary? No, given the fact Saruman was done for. But as a spur of the moment action to stop the attack I thought it made sense.

Overall I like parts of this scene, but it has some issues so I understand why it did not make the theatrical cut.
