Ah, but you are still young, there is yet time...I just counted over 200 on the bookcase beside me here, and there are six more bookcases in this house. Filled. I swear I really do try to unload them into the hands of the local used-bookseller, a few at a time, but then some spine-bound creatures manage to creep into the empty spaces...
Your poor dad has had quite a run of bad health! Hopefully "third time's the charm", and this will be the end of ill health for a long while!
Got curtains all picked out for the new place? Shower curtains, at least?

Only 3 months away this time. Glad to hear you got your trip to Italy, Altaira!!!
When I was here in July, Mom had been dealing with residual inflammation problems from an ear infection. Well, she continued dealing with that until the inflammation caused Bell's Palsy (part of the facial nerve involved with Bell's Palsy runs through the ear canal) and because medication couldn't get it cleared up, she ended up seeing a specialist and having surgery in September to manually clean out the inflammation and any left over infection that might have been in there.
The surgery went well, though the specialist said it wasn't a typical case at all. The infection had created a lot of thick and "matted down" (the term he used) tissue in there, so it was no wonder there was pressure on the facial nerve. But he was able to clean it all out. There's no more infection or swelling or pressure on the nerve and mom has two titanium ear bones to replace the damaged ones. The downside is that the Palsy hasn't cleared up. Yet. They said that with cases like this there's no guarantees BUT if it clears up, it could take upwards of 6 months. Sigh. There's always hope. It is a smidgen better than it was, though. And again, at least the lingering infection and swelling is gone, so no more concern or vertigo from that.
In writing news, that flash fic I subbed out in July is... still out. It's been 109 days according to "The Submission Grinder" which lets you track such things. Average wait time for that magazine is 158-180 days. Still more waiting for me, oh joy.
At least the online writing conference I mentioned back in July happened and was super informative and fun. AND I reached the end of the first editing pass on my manuscript in September! First draft 169k words. Second draft 104k and still tightening. The goal is to get it under 100k for publishing purposes because the bigger the book, the more it costs to print, so publishers generally want debut fantasy under 100k (other genres are shorter) so it's less of a financial risk for them to take.
I did get my Jungle Book collection finished and launched last month. Other crafting news is that I hit 100 sales in my shop this Wednesday!!! *throws confetti*

having had to seriously downsize over the last several years, I was down to three tall bookcases (to the ceiling) and one short one. And the stack by the bed. And the ones above my desk.
I'm going to look at a tiny house as a interim rental for the next year or so. I suspect my storage unit will be housing most of my books during that time.

Laurels really, really want to be 30 feet tall and wide. They are NOT good choices for hedges! Ours was a pain to keep in check, we had to hire people to whack it back twice a year. We were starting to talk to the neighbors on the other side - who are not big on yard maintenance - about digging the whole thing up and fencing instead, but then Dad died and, well, it's someone else's problem now.
If people really want a hedge instead, at least in these parts, I always suggest escallonia. It's much easier to trim, doesn't get huge branches, and it blooms half the year, pretty pink blossoms. Also the leaves aren't poisonous like laurel is.https://i.pinimg.com/...2e13452014385d54.jpg

is that you can really hack it back and it regenerates. I have one at the end of my garden that I keep trimmed to a sort of umbrella shape. I agree about escallonia; I saw a beautiful informal hedge once, at a coastal resort in Wales, that was of escallonia with a small-leaved variegated euonymus scrambling up through it. The combination of glossy green leaves, rich pink flowers and green and white euonymus was so attractive!

Sounds like you're doing so well with the writing and the Etsy shop. Well done on all accounts. Glad to hear your mom's ear problems have been solved. FWIW, my brother had Bell's Palsy when he was in his 20s and it did clear up gradually over about 6 months. So, fingers crossed and good thoughts for your mom!

Dad got Bell's Palsy about ten years ago when he was 60-something and that cleared up in around a month, so Mom's has been such a different experience. That's very encouraging to hear that it can clear even after a longer time!

So good to know they managed to take care of your Mom's infection, and as Altaira notes, the Bell's palsy should most likely clear up!
Meanwhile you're enduring all the joys of publishing. That's the way to do it, though, times of working away at it, and times of patiently waiting!
And great to know your Etsy shop is doing well.  Make sure you've got plenty on hand for when the holiday shopping starts!

So you have been there and back again!!!! *high five* After the nuts season you've had with all your household drama, getting this respite is such a treat! Awesome! :D
I got my booster shot Friday and am very relieved to have that done and done.
We had a weird little episode last Tuesday. My 2 Sisters and I finally got to go visit our Aunt (Mom's lil Sis and only remaining of that era) for the first time in 2 years! She said she was so excited, she hardly slept all night. I'm 2 hrs+ drive and little sister is 2.5hrs drive. We had such a great time! Big Sis brought an old portrait of our paternal G'pa at 2yo for me to take home. We all gathered around the pic fascinated because we really don't know much about him as he died at 47yo when Dad was 13 (same age lil Bro was when Dad died at 59yo). We wondered when he was born, so both Sis's got into their phones and checked. He was born on October 19, 1884. My eyes bugged out and I exclaimed... That's Today! *silent pause* then we all burst into song... HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!
All-in-all we had such a wonderful time together and can't wait until we can do it again!
I'm on my way out the door to do serious damage on my daughter's shed clearing/organizing. There are always "reasons" why each day is getting put off, but I told her yesterday that this is the last week of messing with this after waiting since April! BOXES BOXES BOXES! I'm great at playing Tetris, so I'm confident I can get it done today moving everything out of shed #3 and into #2 & #1... not waiting for weeding and sorting. Gotta get it done since it's getting COLD out! gramma's got 'tude now... Get Outta My Way!

was describing how the people at his new job as an assistant to the interior decorators at a big furniture store let him re-organize the samples room, which was driving him crazy. He spent all day very happily. I said, "So, it was a Sheldon-in-the-closet moment" and he said "exactly."

With the very long warm weather (10-15 degrees higher than usual), so the trees are either just now reaching peak or have already dropped their leaves or are still green. Even the migrating birds don't know whether to go north or south! But... the cold weather has hit today. Fall has finally fallen ;)
