Astronomy News: It's the Great Conjunction, Charlie Brown

NPR has a neat list of photos of the Jupiter/Saturn Great Conjunction along with photos of people around the world with their telescopes, from Kuwait to Kansas. Too much light pollution & cloudy skies for me to see anything in Boston, but I hope other astronomy lovers are having better luck.

but the evening before last I did manage to have a reasonable view of the two small dots that have been getting people so excited. Small but impressive! No telescope or anything, but my friend, who has a much better zoom on her camera than I have, managed to capture three of the moons of Jupiter as well in her picture.

So I very much appreciate you sharing those photos.

Thanks! There was too much cloud cover last night here, but tonight the clouds held off and we were able to get a clear view of them.

I had been looking forward to this for months but we had nothing but clouds here on Lake Erie. Maybe I'll have better luck in 800 years.

Last night we had what I thought was the clearest night sky all year. Which is saying something, between the smog and light pollution of living in the middle of a city like LA. I sadly didn't have a good enough camera to get anything sharable, but if I zoom in on the photo from my phone, I can see the fuzzy shape of Saturn's rings. My family in the Midwest had overcast skies last night but were lucky enough to see the planets tonight. Thanks for sharing those photos! Just breathtaking.

Nothing but clouds all week. *fingers crossed* that it will be visible for a few more weeks and we'll get a break in the weather at the right time!

Just now in the past hour on Sunday, December 27 at 11am Eastern US time... the sun has shown from behind a constant cloud cover. It's been nearly 2 weeks of overcast skies. *grumble* Hopefully it will stay clear until tonight so I might see some aftermath. I've also missed out on the Northern Lights and the Internal Space Station passing overhead all on the same day/night as the Great Conjunction. *sigh* What a busy, glorious time it's been :D

I feel your pain. Not only have we had clouds every night but we also got 2 feet of snow. It wasn't all bad though. We had a white Christmas!
