Have you ever been banned? Can't Post

From any Tolkien-related community? I have. More than once. I normally get in flame wars with Hobbit-movie haters...they completely outrage me with their weak, uptight and hubris-filled arguments.

Anyway, what about you?

Do warnings count? [In reply to] Can't Post

I can't recall ever being banned, per se, but I have been warned when I've crossed a line (or come close to doing so).

Moving this to Feedback...er, Kcabdeef [In reply to] Can't Post

From the Hobbit Movie Board. Since the topic is general, it's probably more appropriate here.

I would have thought "Off Topic", but maybe that's just me.

Well, this board used to be Ban Central Station [In reply to] Can't Post

It's been a while, but when I joined TORn at the height of the LotR films' releases, the debates were endless and so were the challenges to the boards' longstanding family-friendly and troll-hostile policies. People were banned often, it seemed, after first angrily debating their standing with the admins on the Feedback board. This board itself was instituted especially to allow discussions of TORn administrative policies without disrupting the other boards' more civil conversations.

At the beginning of a TORn visit one used to check Feedback for a sudden surge of unread posts, which was the cyber equivalent of blood running out from under a closed door.

squire online:
RR Discussions: The Valaquenta, A Shortcut to Mushrooms, and Of Herbs and Stewed Rabbit
Lights! Action! Discuss on the Movie board!: 'A Journey in the Dark'. and 'Designing The Two Towers'.
Archive: All the TORn Reading Room Book Discussions (including the 1st BotR Discussion!) and Footerama: "Tolkien would have LOVED it!"

Is it wrong that I feel disappointed when it's just a request to correct a typo?

I was warned here once [In reply to] Can't Post

for an image I posted.I was absolutely gobsmacked, and it caused me to reflect on the cultural differences around what is considered offensive. Lesson learned.Other than that glitch, I am pretty well behaved.
I have managed to curb my natural sweariness.
I just say it in my head (or yell it at the screen for special occasions) instead of on the keyboard.

I do a lot of typing and erasing [In reply to] Can't Post

to curb my natural tendencies.

Which explains why after years and years I have less than 2000 posts.

If I could count all those I deleted I'd be in Valinor by now.

You're not wrong, or we both are :) // [In reply to] Can't Post

Happiness: money matters, but less than we think and not in the way that we think. Family is important and so are friends, while envy is toxic -- and so is excessive thinking. Beaches are optional. Trust is not. Neither is gratitude. - The Geography of Bliss by Eric Weiner as summarized by Lily Fairbairn. And a bit of the Hobbit reading thrown in never hurts. - NottaSackville
