The Fantastic Journey Of Mr. Bilbo Baggins

This may have been posted before, but this is a 1985 Soviet TV adaptation of The Hobbit. After the Finnish Lord of the Rings and the 30 minute "animated" storyboard for the unmade Hobbit movie from the 60's, this has to be the most obscure Tolkien adaptation I've heard of.... https://archive.org/details/TheFantasticJourneyOfMr.BilboBagginsTheHobbit https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hobbit_(1985_film)

Well, production values were not the priority, clearly

I just glimpsed at it, via your link (it's a 71-minute video), and the costumes, choreography, and production design are pretty ghastly from a professional standpoint. Of course, if it was an amateur production made on a shoestring, it's incredibly ambitious. I couldn't follow the Russian dialogue, so I have no idea how the adaptation works. Thanks for the heads-up!

I suppose that shouldn't come as a surprise that it looks more like a stage production than not, though I've only watched a few minutes of it. The budget seems to have been fairly modest. Btw, I'm not sure why you posted this in the forum for discussion of the Amazon series. Main seems like a more logical choice.

Yes, it does look like a stage production.

Interesting puppetry, with Smaug and the spiders. Several scenes missing, and Kili and Fili are still alive at the end, but not bad for what could easily be a small stage production. By the way, it's moved, now!

He certainly mentioned it here, and I know I've seen parts of it before. Thanks for sharing!
