Showrunner Ideas Can't Post

Aside from the common suggestions of PJ or Benioff & Weiss, who would you like to see in the running to helm this soon-to-be-behemoth show?

If we're talking film directors stepping into TV, del Toro and Cuaron will inevitably have their name thrown around. I would throw in Alex Garland, who directed Ex Machina and has an intriguing sci-fi film called Annihilation coming early next year. Denis Villeneuve would certainly bring the scale, as well as the affinity for practical effects many here appreciate.

And for folks coming from TV, I might suggest Noah Hawley of Fargo and Legion fame. Jonathan Nolan & Lisa Joy of Westworld are also on the rise, though that show is keeping them quite occupied these days.

Are there any established creators who are on the record as being Tolkien fans?

Will there be any left after the scandals go through Hollywood? [In reply to] Can't Post

The whole system has been rotten for years and who knows what other big names will be implicated. We might see foreign directors get some large roles, especially if shot in some unique areas of Europe for example. Some scenes in the Balkans would be outstanding besides some UK and other European areas. I could even see South America...areas in Argentina and Chile have the epic grandeur required.

Holywood [In reply to] Can't Post

I would like to see the production of this series remain in New Zealand or move to Europe (using a multiple of countries) and stay away from Hollywood.. KS

Or maybe.... [In reply to] Can't Post

... Andrew Davies, who writes some of the most sensitive and skilful TV adaptations of classic books...
Or the team who wrote and produced the BBC adaptation of 'Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell'

To me Tolkien seems naturally more cinematic... [In reply to] Can't Post

Personally I tend to think that Tolkien is naturally much more cinematic than someone like Martin and this should potentially be reflected in the choices made. Unless your going to be radically changing the tone of his work I think building atmosphere and location is going to be a key aspect of the shows success and to me that needs someone with high level cinematic experience.

Ontop of the names mentioned I would say Gareth Edwards(with Tony Gilroy) could potentially work, I liked what he did with Rogue One and Godzilla bringing those stories down to earth dramatically and building atmosphere really successfully. He's also someone with a lot of knowledge of the technical side of things which is probably going to be important on a project of this scale.
