And I can't help but have a little professional admiration for a warrior who lost his right hand and learned to wield a sword more deadly with his left.

(I got tennis elbow in my right arm and fenced left-handed for several months, so that's almost exactly the same thing. Crazy)

They always came across as less thoroughly nasty people. Crazy I love the story of Maedhros getting strung up by his hand though.
