Best Harry Potter Book Can't Post

With the new Harry Potter script novel coming out in July what do you think is the best Harry Potter book?

It's hard to choose between Goblet of Fire and Prisoner of Azkaban. [In reply to] Can't Post

PoA was when the series took a serious turn, but GoF was when the danger became hideously real with the return of Voldemort. I voted GoF, but for me it's very close between these two books.

Agreed! [In reply to] Can't Post

For years I was a PoA fan.....but GoF has become a classic in the series....I would have to say GoF though in the end...Books 3,4,5 & 6 I really, really liked. I liked CoS, but it is the bottom of the list for me.

Order of the Phoenix [In reply to] Can't Post

I guess because I could relate to it better, since I was an adult reader. The situation with Umbridge is one I've seen in our Muggle world many times. I also liked that Harry was written closer to a 15-year-old boy who thinks he's more grown up than he really is; and that some of his heroes were flawed, while his enemy Snape was actually not as bad as either Unbridge or Fudge for that matter. It's funny, though - my older daughter liked "Half-Blood Prince" best because that's the way SHE believes teenage boys act (yeah, she was a teenager at the time, LOL!).

close call between Prisoner of Azkaban and The Order of the Phoenix [In reply to] Can't Post

But I voted for The Order of the Phoenix. I know Voldemort comes back in The Goblet of fire, but The Order of the Phoenix is where, for me anyway, things turn quite serious.

The kids form Dumbledore's Army and start taking matters into their own hands, so the start transitioning from kids to adults. It's also where Fred and George decide to leave school. Those two developments alone were huge, I thought.

It stands between The Order of the Phoenix or The Deathly Hallows, but I will go with The Order of the Phoenix.

GoF for me [In reply to] Can't Post

I think the first two books weren't that well-written and Rowling only started to hit her stride with PoA, and then in GoF everything went to a new level.

Order of the Phoenix by a nose [In reply to] Can't Post

Philosopher's Stone is a sentimental favorite, and I love PoA for many of the reasons already stated, but OotP adds yet more depth and character development. Rowling bravely allows Harry to be an obnoxious teen and, as much as I want to tell him off, I applaud the realism.

OotP is also the one that introduces us to Luna, one of my favorites. Smile

On the other hand, [In reply to] Can't Post

I'd say Order of the Phoenix is my least favorite, mostly because everyone acts in a stupid manner. For example, what was Dumbledore thinking when he told Snape to teach Harry Occlumency?

Dumbledore trust Snape plus Snape is one of the best on Occlumency.

But knowing the animosity between Snape and Harry, [In reply to] Can't Post

Dumbledore surely knew that it would not ebb away like that for the sake of learning an important skill, and because it was Snape, Harry never really tried to learn Occlumency.

In other words, Dumbledore knew what he was getting into and still did it.

Or he's fallible and makes big mistakes from time to time. [In reply to] Can't Post

I can't remember the quote verbatim, but at one point he tells Harry that his intelligence is huge and his mistakes are just as huge.
