they were spread over quite a long time period. His first was pre-FOTR; his most recent (IIRC) was a few years ago. His particular movie issues were (again, IIRC) smoking, and plate armour. In his more recent posts, he criticised Karen Wynn Fonstad's maps, and said that his own were more accurate. I believe he was attempting to get his own book of Tolkien maps published.

I get the impression people know of him from other things than TORN, and he seemed to think he was something special, too. Is he a published writer or something?

Here's his web site: http://www.michael-martinez.com/ I've found him to be condescending toward anyone who he deems to be less knowledgeable than he is, but he certainly knows a lot about Tolkien.

Both have bio pages, but that for A'mael, who appears on gramma's list, reveals nothing, unlike the bio for A'amel, who was missing from the list.

Say you had found out a former poster's real name by following a few links to his (inactive) webpage from his TORn bio, then Googled the name and found his (active) livejournal. Would you contact him and invite him to the new TORn boards, or would that be considered stalking?
Where's Frodo?

If he's on Live Journal then it's a fair assumption that he wants to communicate with people online, and the LJ is the format he has chosen. You know he has an interest in LOTR and has been involved with TORN in the past, so it sounds reasonable to give him some information about TORN that he might not be aware of. Then it's up to him to decide whether or not he visits TORN again. I'd say it's less 'stalking' and more 'sharing information'.

Gerontius and Corsair of Umbar. *drums fingers waiting for them to register* There's also palefella (I think she moved on from TORN) and Sheik Yerbouti (a long-time MIA).

Just from looking at gramma's original list I'm thinking I did not see smokering, milk or Choice of Luthien. I saw StridersGIRL on the list but weren't there other variations like Stridersgrrrrl? Or some versions of Frodo'sgrrrrl? It's hard to keep them straight there were several along those lines. Wasn't there also a Hut River Woman? Also, I went to Joelle's Where in the World are the Tornsibs map and saw these folks: Jabesq, Little Elanor, Menelwie, Entish Freedom Fighter, EireLibra, Rasputin the Evil Balrog, arenelvalie, Bramblerose Brandybuck, vinyawethiel, homer, summertime, linkoidemon, blanche_niphredil, morgoth, Cerys Maancrebin, Vanyariel, auntie ent, Orange Blossom Toadfoot, Trixie Hobbit, Osse (with the two dots on the e), Pippin Sparrow, MotherWasAHamster, Lady Of Dor-Iomin, precious2004, Sowen, Elithaniel_M, grizzyof3, Poppins, snowdropper, Rhundan of Mirkwood, Poldalle, Lórelei, r2k2dbprice, nurindel, Glorindiel, Whitney & Baby Zoe (It's Just Me), Miriel Telcontar, Plantagenet, bluepilgrim 7, smeagol68, bell willow, Freda of Rohan, olotie, Inwai, Frodo Hoy, froditz, IndilUK, Isis Newton, hummingbird, nina_glyndwr, Neldoreth, lelin, delyth. My most humble apologies to all whose name's I've misspelled in my haste (I am obviously not an ent). Many of these folks I recall but there are some I've never heard of and I've been lurking quite a while. I tried to check all of these against gramma's original list and I don't think I've seen too many of them on other's lists. Enjoy.

he's now a lawyer and gets paid to compose long and vehement arguments on other topics. Though I admit I would love to know if he ever did break down and watch the movies. I imagine a review by Kelannar would make...interesting...reading. So long as the intestinal issues didn't crop up too frequently, that is...

who had ever posted on the old boards. I was taking one last look at the stats and saw the long list of names and thought it'd be fun to have it as part of the archive before the old boards were put into hibernation. It was discovered very quickly the list was incomplete... so I was going for trying to see if we could remember and add those who were missing. Not trying to contact them or recruit them to register now... just a long look back as part of the history of the boards :)
