Thanks TheHutt Smile

I was waiting to see what they had in store for the trilogy box set. The colours look gorgeous and well-suited alongside the LOTR set.

nice [In reply to] Can't Post

looks rather spiffy, although i wish they'd just use the same plain grey for the 3d.

can i assume that inside the 3d boxset is the same individual blurays ive previously bought? and will they just sell the box!

Now I wonder what the statue is. They only show the back side of the giftset, as it seems.

For ROTK SEE... [In reply to] Can't Post

New Line had a voucher code to buy the boxset. However, only in the US.

However, it might look different with Warner now.

LOVE both trilogy box sets. [In reply to] Can't Post

I love the simplicity of the 2D, but love how the 3D will fit perfectly next to the LotR set.

So what do we think the Collector's Edition statue is going to be? [In reply to] Can't Post

Both of the other two had Bilbo in them. I don't really know if he'll be in this one, considering he really didn't have much to do here.

The trilogy box-set. Those gold borders don't line up properly. Are we sure this one is official? I love the design, but that border will bug me Unsure

Luckily we'll get the ones without any bad photoshopped floating heads! [In reply to] Can't Post

The look as 'good' a all the previous versions (except the one of bilbo on the carrock, that looks awful!)

Not overly impressed by the trilogy set either. That dark dirty grey just looks wrong for the Hobbit.

Not much to do? [In reply to] Can't Post

Well, Bilbo had the whole business of the Arkenstone - hiding it, escaping with it, going back without it, almost being thrown from the rampart. He took the news about Bolg's army to Ravenhill; was with Thorin when he died; went 'back' at the end, having been 'there' - and that's not counting several key conversations which, good as they are, might not make a subject for a statue. But I'd say there's quite a lot of scope there for a statue without them.

I meant not much to do that's worthy of a statue. [In reply to] Can't Post

Pretty much the only thing that's statue-able is he and Gandalf sitting after the battle, or Bilbo with Thorin as he's dying.

If that is the actual artwork, I'm sure the gold bands will be unbroken on the real thing. This looks to be just a digital mock-up.

I reckon they could manage a statue based on several of his Arkenstone moments, if they wanted to.

IMO *urgh* [In reply to] Can't Post

Bilbo/Thorin at the last, IMO, would be dare I say - for me, sick as a collectibleFrown. Bilbo and Gandalf I think while not tasteless, well - unlike the previous collectibles "shrug".

Anyway, I could see a little vignette of Bilbo in front of Bag End - there and back again. Bard in Dale - or Bard/Bain/Smaug. Thorin and Bilbo w. Bilbo holding an acorn. Thorin on the throne, maybe w. Bilbo beside. My personal favorite would be a little vignette of Thorin/Azog.

Or, *sigh* it could well be something elf-oriented, since we already had Bilbo twice in theory. Which will save me some money, unless possibly it were Thranduil. It could even be DG w. Galadriel facing off Sauron.

IMO lots of material to choose from - just will it make folks happy? I remember a lot of people wanted Smaug for DOS, tho I love the barrels figure and think WETA did a terrific job w. the piece - lots of energy and detail IMO.

(And except for the collectible box, the grey color doesn't bother me but the lazy boringness of the images does - *sigh*)

Not so much a spoiler [In reply to] Can't Post

- People who haven't already seen the movie don't know who the dying fellow is, nor if he will die or if he's just wounded.
- Most people who engage and buy an extended version have already seen the Theater edition and so won't be spoilt
- The title of the movie is 'The Battle of the Five Armies', so there is no surprise that somebody may be wounded
- Bilbo is known to have survived the Hobbit adventure since the Lord Of the Rings Trilogy, so noboby will be spoilt about his own fate

Furthermore,

- The scene is very moving and summarizes the fate of the Durins
- It also summarizes the relationship (friendship, forgiveness and sorrow) between the two main characters in the Hobbit trilogy
- Visually it reflects the AUJ statuette between Bilbo and Gollum

Anyway, Anybody who will buy such a coffret and keep such a statuette knows who the characters are, otherwise it would be meaningless, and if someone happen to love both of the characters, it's a mighty opportunity to keep in touch with that feeling

Those are good points, but I still don't see it happening. [In reply to] Can't Post

Whether the likelihood of it spoiling someone is high or not, it's still a pretty big spoiler, and a rather morbid one at that. It's not impossible, but I personally think it will be something else.

We'll see soon enough :)

Names... [In reply to] Can't Post

There was talk a couple of years ago by Sir Peter, when the 2 movies became 3 and "There and Back Again" was scrapped, that such title would come back once the three movies were all released. It would be great if these box sets had "The Hobbit: There and Back Again" printed all over the place.

In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit...
