Here's a personality test that's fun

I've been using this test for years when I do presentations. It's a great ice-breaker because it doesn't take a lot of complicated questions, and the personality groups are so easy to understand. I first heard Susan Dellinger speak at a luncheon years ago and she's very entertaining and spot on with her take on the different personality types. I'm currently part of a large project that's comprised of client personnel and consultants. We've all taken the test and have a lot of fun teasing each other with the best and worst of our personality groups. Like all successful teams, we have a healthy mixture of all shapes. Here's the link: http://www.it-serve.co.uk/...s/questionnaire.html If you take the test, please take a moment and register so Dr.Susan can use your results in her research. I'm a triangle. I've taken this test many times and I always come up triangle. It's funny because my whole life I've been attracted to triangle shapes. I have triangle earrings, triangle prints on my clothes, and love the geometry proofs with triangles. So what shape are you?

The types of things it got right were things that I straight out told it, like how neat or messy my desk was. It made several assumptions about me that were incorrect. My horoscope is more accurate, although I don't believe in astrology, either. ;o)

The first time, the result was a combination of 3 different shapes. It suggested I try again. I did, and got a result that didn't seem to fit very well. So I tried it yet again, and again, and again. Each time I got something different, and each description contained at least one or two elements that were decidedly not me. I think maybe I'm just an amorphous blob.

I got two different profiles now, neither which fit well. The first said I wasn't artistic at all and I was fiercely athletic and in upper management . I think the problem with me is I don't work in an office and my home office is not where I do my creative work, I tend to work alone when I'm doing art even though I'm in several art and community groups. So I don't fit the mold for most of the questions.

About half the stuff it said was wrong, and in my case it even said I did things that I'd answered "no" to. I still find the Meyers-Briggs to be the most accurate personality test I've ever taken.

It said I was a rectangle and very messy, and that my desk was messy. All my life everyone in the offices in which I worked commented that I always kept my desk so neat.

A good test should always yield the same results given the same conditions/test subject. I took this 4 times, getting a different combination of questions each time. Result 1: Circle/Box/Triangle Result 2: Rectangle/Box/Squiggle Result 3: Rectangle Result 4: Circle/Rectangle Some of the analysis was spot-on; other was nonsense. She needs to re-work the test.

Here are the words to describe us Boxes: organised, tidy, logical and practical highly intolerant of sloppy work most knowledgeable (well, that may be a fudge!) dependability, perseverance and patience obsessional attention to detail (right on the mark!) perfectionists (Every test I've ever done has come up with this little comment!) resistant to change (hence my apprehension about the new TORn boards!) not team players (I prefer complete control.) Another thing it mentions is the Box's love of predictability. So I was comforted that I am predictably a perfectionist loner, obsessive neat freak! Thanks for the link!

I have had a lot of success with the Myers-Briggs personality tests, but not this one. I actually took it a number of times and not only did I come up differently every time, but none of them seemed to fit. It is interesting to see what the categories are, but it just doesn't seem right for me.
(Formerly Lossefalme3, just in case you're wondering)*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Aragorn threw back his cloak. The elven-sheath glittered as he grasped it, and the bright blade of Andúril shone like a sudden flame as he swept it out. 'Elendil!' he cried. 'I am Aragorn son of Arathorn, and am called Elessar, the Elfstone, Dúnadan, the heir of Isildur Elendil's son of Gondor. Here is the Sword that was Broken and is forged again! Will you aid me or thwart me? Choose swiftly!' Probably because many of the questions were completely irrelevant to my situation (I'm self-employed, and many of the questions applied only to people who work with other people in organizations). I answered every question as accurately as I could, but many of the traits in the "profile" were pretty much the opposite of how I would describe myself or of how anyone I know would describe me.

I took it twice. The first time I was a Squiggle, the second time I was a Box. I'm more dependable than the Squiggle, but less organized than the Box. I don't think I have the Jekyll/Hyde Squiggle Box personality either. I'm not sure where I fit in Dr. Dellinger's univers.

You can categorized me as outside the box, or maybe a little circle with squiggly appendages ending in triangles for hands and squares for legs.

answering all questions as accurately as I could (given that for many, the best answer would have been N/A), and got rectangle, circle, and box. None of the corresponding profiles describe me; a couple of statements in each might be accurate, but many more are quite inaccurate. I think the problem with this quiz is partly the wording of the questions, but mostly the assumptions behind them. Traits this person seems to think go together in a "profile" are not necessarily linked at all. And a lot of the questions are worded such that an accurate answer will often lead to miscategorization. For example, when asked if my desk is messy, I say yes, because it is. But when asked if there is a place for everything on my desk, I also say yes, because there is (though not everything is necessarily in its place). There are piles of papers on my desk, but that's where they are supposed to be. My filing system is well organized, but I've never created a system for others, because I work alone. I'm very well organized, but I have piles of paper on the floor, because I've run out of desk, shelf, and file-drawer space (they're well-organized piles!). Depending which questions come up, I'm either compulsively neat or a disorganized slob. Do I like to go to the best restaurants? Sure! Can I afford to? No! Is my partner a quiet, serious person? If I say no, because I have no partner, what does that say about my personality? Would it be healthier to have an imaginary partner? Do I prefer to read novels? "Prefer" to what? Watching movies? What if I "prefer" variety in my reading material? Do I enjoy woodworking and collecting? Well, I collect certain things, but I've never done any woodworking, nor do I expect to. As for the significance of whether my weekend breaks involve quick trips abroad, somehow, I don't think this quiz was meant for Americans!

I got squiggle+triangle and clicked on the link for the profile and got a 404 error. Also, having a test made completely of yes/no questions is probably not the best way to go. I'm big on the grey area and yes/no is too black and white. Granted it's just an internet quiz but still. The Likert scale is your friend!

I came out as a "Circle Squiggle," which captured many aspects of my personality. I work OK alone or in groups, crave variety and stimulation, can be disorganized, tend to be "big picture" person, friendly, and have lots of hobbies. But here was the money quote: "You enjoy science fiction and your musical tastes run to the unusual, offbeat counter-culture groups."

and I got 'box' twice, which I find to be pretty much what I'd expect (i.e. it's more or less the way I see myself). The other time, I got a triangle and a message saying I probably didn't answer the questions consistently! For me, the problem is that the questions are really only asking about a person's own view of themselves (we're asked to judge ourselves on tidiness, sociability or whatever), so it's hardly surprising if the result confirms our own view of ourselves. I can only guess that your view of yourself is just too complex for this rather simple questionnaire to handle! It's got a British bias too, as you note. I usually have the opposite problem, as a Brit anwering questions with an American bias - perhaps surprisingly, it does seem to make a difference.
