I really like Azog, but Bolg's design is so boring. Wish they had used the original look.

I wish the "old bolg" design had been Azog all along (as the design was intended for) Also i wish they had called azog bolg.. was no reason for "resurecting" azog, when they could have jsut ahd the same story but named him Bolg and it would fit the books better. that 'warden'? looks amazing.

I know this has been a much discussed and "old" topic, but the prosthetic orcs are SO much better in these films. WThe prosthetic orcs we have seen in AUJ, DOS and BOTFA all look incredible and actually feel PRESENT in the scenes, unlike their CGI counterparts for the most part. I'm also not a fan of the color grading in DOS and BOTFA. PJ reacted to strongly to the criticism of AUJ HFR and added a weird "bloom" filter to everything. It's hard to describe but it's the glowing, smudgy look. It's very unappealing.

I know plenty of the heavily armed orcs in this movie are prosthetic, but do we get any good looks at them or are they all covered up? Also, do any other orcs than Azog and Bolg have any lines of dialogue?

Sorry! But I agree, he looks incredible Even kind of creepy. I still love CGI Bolg's look, but "warden Bolg" might have made a better main villain and added more of a sense of realism since he's prosthetic.

He's in very briefly and gets taken out quickly. There isn't a lot of time to look at the design, other than the one good closeup which you see in the screenshots.

Why Azog had to be CGI. If you had a tall, imposing actor, and maybe more armor and clothes on him, he could have still have been prosthetic and look really good, same with Bolg.

A number of designs were apparently attempted. The only reason they went with CGI was because at the very last minute they realized that the design they'd settled on wasn't menacing enough, which I agree with. Apparently they were using the prosthetic Yazneg design for Azog. Looking back, it's hard to imagine any of the Thorin-Azog confrontations with the Yazneg-design in place of CG Azog.

There simply wasn't enough time to re-film all of the scenes in which Azog appeared with a new actor and practical design, given the amount of time they had remaining until the premiere. I think Azog has been a pretty successfully CGI creation so far, in all honesty.

The larger Orcs in Tolkien's writing were often described as "man-high", which would imply that on average Orcs were generally very short compared to Men. A large Orc would most likely be the same height as an above-average height man. (Although I'd allow for a few 7 ft tall outliers).
