Help name my new cat

So, I have a new cat. I'm leaning towards calling him Turgon (mostly because at the moment he tends to hide away until something important is happening) but Fingolfin and Sauron are also on the table. Had he been female Shelob probably would have been the way to go. Or Ungoliant. Anyways, is Turgon a good name for a little ginger cat? What else might fit him?

Your explanation behind naming him Turgon is hilarious. Hmm...for some reason I feel like Maciliel will be great at this. I vote Turgon, though.

Mog. I think that's a brilliant name for a cat. I'm not a cat person but if I ever had a cat again (I won't) I'd name it Mog.

He would have to be black for you even to consider naming him for the Dark Lord.

Since that's what I wanted to name our ginger tabby cat. We settled on Gimli though. And we have a Rosie as well.

Now I have a wild urge to rename my cat so I could give him a more Tolkienesque name. Though one could consider Karu (Estonian for 'bear') to be an allusion to Beorn...

We've got a male cat who looks a bit like yours (but heavier). I named him Pippin. For yours, I might look to the Vanyar or consider Thranduil or Legolas (you could just nickname him 'Leggy').

When naming cats I like to consider what it will sound like when I call them. "Pip-pip-pippin!" is a noise that cats will come to. In general, the harder consonants are easier for animals to hear. "Sauron" would just sound like a hiss to them. So Turgon would be better. How about Purrgon?

Although I think 'moggie' was a term I was vaguely familiar with...

...it came to the forefront in a dark parody song that used to be sung at community sings around here. No Man's Land is a song by Eric Bogle that reflects on the grave of a young man who died in World War I lyrics well... Bob Kanefsky wrote a filk song to that tune called, No Moggy's Land it's dark... you've been warned. But after hearing it a few times I did look up "Moggie" just to find out more about the word. another cat names I like: Pyewacket and Grimalkin. I've always wondered if the 'pye' in pyewacket was related to the 'pie' in magpie... also spelled magpye. I can't find any info on it, though.

It's good to see Turgon get a bit of support. Everyone else I've mentioned it to say "oh, but it'll be shortened to turd" or other such nonsense. Ultimately he probably won't actually be called that much anyway. My other cats get nicknames 99.9% of the time (Harpy = Crumb, Attila = Sack, Mordred = The Red Menace). Although Tevildo is a colossally good idea...

I know, it has 3 syllables, so it's not a practical pet name, but I've always loved that character. So cool.
